Nina Rachel Hammond

Orange, NH–Nina Richard Hammond, 79, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 5, 1998. She was born in Grafton, NH on Oct. 23, 1918, the daughter of William J. and Bertha (Sargent) Jones. She had been a resident of this area all her life and graduated from Canaan High School in 1937. She was the widow of Ronald “Skip” Hammond who died in 1993. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover as a unit assistant as well as assisting in the operation of the family business, F.C. Hammond and Sons Lumber Co. She was active for many years in the PTA, American Legion Auxiliary, and the 4-H Club. She was devoted to her family and friends and loved her cat dearly. She was always there to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed horseback riding and hunting.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield Thursday evening from 7-9 pm. A funeral service was held Friday morning at 11 am at the Canaan Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Williams officiating. A burial followed in the Wells Cemetery in Canaan.

Survivors include: Son, Fred Hammond, Canaan, NH; Daughter, Jeannette Stillson, Enfield, NH; Daughter, Helen Rocke, Canaan, NH; Daughter, Linda Jones, Orange, NH; Daughter, Debra Clark, Canaan, NH; Son, Vincent Hammond, Canaan, NH; 11 Grandchildren; 12 Great-grandchildren; and Mr. Cat, her companion.

Ronald C. “Skip” Hammond

Ronald C. “SKIP” Hammond, 82, died Saturday evening May 15, 1993, at the Brookside Nursing Home in Bradford, VT, following a long illness.  He was born in Mason, NH, on August 1, 1910, the son of the late “FRED” and Annie (Hay) Hammond.  He had been a lifelong resident of the same home in Orange, NH, and we owner and operator of F.C. Hammond Lumber Co. of Canaan, NH.

“Skip” was a charter member of the Canaan Lions Club, and was a lifelong member of the Cardigan Mountain Fish & Game Club.  He was a Deputy State Fire Warden; had served on the Mascoma Valley Regional School Board; was active on Orange town affairs; and was an avid horse pulling enthusiast.

He was married to Nina R. Jones on Jan. 30, 1952.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 PM in the Canaan United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in the Wells Cemetery in Canaan. The Rev. Peter Hey will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to: Mascoma Home Health Services, Main Street, Canaan, NH, 03741.

Survivors include his wife, Nina R. (Jones) Hammond of Orange; four daughters – Jeanette Stillson of Enfield, Helen Rocke and Debra Clark of Canaan, and Linda Jones of Orange; two sons – Fred and Vincent, both of Canaan, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, and several great-grandchildren.  Mr. Hammond was preceded in death by his father, Alfred, and mother, Annie, and two brothers – Raymond and Walter.
