{"id":42,"date":"2015-11-16T15:49:30","date_gmt":"2015-11-16T15:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/canaanlibrary.org\/history\/?p=42"},"modified":"2015-11-16T15:49:30","modified_gmt":"2015-11-16T15:49:30","slug":"joan-easton-dunleavy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/canaanlibrary.org\/history\/?p=42","title":{"rendered":"Joan Easton Dunleavy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>from the August 4, 1993 issue of The Country Chronicle<\/p>\n<p>Joan Easton Dunleavy, 40, died July 16 in Baltimore, Maryland of leukemia.\u00a0 Mrs. Dunleavy, the daughter of Canaan residents Roger and Barbara Easton, devoted much of her short life to helping the less fortunate, particularly children.<\/p>\n<p>She adopted Caroline, now 2, a Romanian child, and became active in efforts to have other neglected and orphaned Romanian children adopted by American parents.<\/p>\n<p>Even though stricken with leukemia, she continued to organize successful social gatherings for other adoptive American parents and their Romanian children.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Dunleavy also sponsored an umproverished girl in Ecuador.\u00a0 She enjoyed making crafts such as baby quilts and giving these expressions of her love to friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Dunleavy has worked for the Library of Congress for 18 years, most recently in the Performing Arts Division of the Library\u2019s copyright office.<\/p>\n<p>She was born on March 28. 1953, in Washington, D.C. and resided in Springfield, Virginia with John, her husband of five years.<\/p>\n<p>She was a music graduate of Chatham College in Pittsburgh and earned her master\u2019s degree in library science from Catholic University.\u00a0 She played the piano and harp and was actively involved in her church.<\/p>\n<p>Almost eleven years earlier, Mrs. Dunleavy had fought and survived Hodgkin\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Ann of Toms river, NJ; Ruth of Strasburg, VA; Richard of Chicago, Ill; and Roger Easton of Rochester, NY.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>from the August 4, 1993 issue of The Country Chronicle Joan Easton Dunleavy, 40, died July 16 in Baltimore, Maryland of leukemia.\u00a0 Mrs. Dunleavy, the daughter of Canaan residents Roger and Barbara Easton, devoted much of her short life to helping the less fortunate, particularly children.
