{"id":88,"date":"2016-03-04T14:52:02","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T14:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/canaanlibrary.org\/history\/?p=88"},"modified":"2016-03-04T14:52:02","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T14:52:02","slug":"frederick-simon-fred-legere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/canaanlibrary.org\/history\/?p=88","title":{"rendered":"Frederick Simon &#8220;Fred&#8221; Legere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>from the April 27, 1994 issue of The Country Chronicle<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon, NH \u2013 Frederick Simon \u201cFred\u201d Legere, 73, died Friday, April 22, 1994 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.\u00a0 He was born in Portland, Me, on October 21, 1920, the son of the late Frederick &amp; Lucy (Blanchard) Legere, and was a graduate of the Chevrus High School in Portland, Me.\u00a0 \u201cFred\u201d was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII having served with the Army Medical Corps.\u00a0 Following his discharge, he worked for the American News CO, in Portland, Me, and during the \u201850\u2019s came to the Upper Valley where he was employed by Verham News for several years.\u00a0 He was later employed for over 20 years prior to his retirement in the Sales Dept. of Gateway Motoers in White River, Jct., VT.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFred\u201d was well known for his tireless dedication to area High School, College and community sports.\u00a0 He officiated at many sporting events including basketball, baseball and football.\u00a0 He was actively involved with the organization of the officiating crews for the Shriner\u2019s Maple Sugar Bowl football games.\u00a0 He received many awards and citations for his officiating including awards from Governor and the State of New Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>He was also a member of the American Legion Post #22 of Lebanon; and the Lebanon Lions Club.<\/p>\n<p>He was married to Hester E. (Brown) on April 18, 1942.<\/p>\n<p>Ricker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.\u00a0 The family requests that memorial contributions be made to: The National Kidney Foundation of NH, One Tremont Street, Concord, NH, 03301 or to: The Carter Community Building Association (CCBA), P.O.
