Dorothy E. Clough

Enfield, NH–Dorothy E. Clough, 80, of Enfield died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on December 13, 1999 following a brief illness.

She was born July 30, 1919 and had been a lifelong resident of this area.

Mrs. Clough enjoyed yard sales, bingo, eating out, trips with seniors and church activities. She was a foster grandparent at Canaan Elementary School, a Head Start teacher in Canaan, and a clerk at Canaan Country Store. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and generosity.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Clough; a daughter, Vicki LaLiberty; and a sister, Pauline Roberts.

Survivors include a son, John H. Clough of Canaan; a daughter, Peggy Wicki of Quechee; and seven grandchildren.

It was Mrs. Clough’s request that there be no services at this time and that her body be donated to Dartmouth Medical School for research. A memorial service will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church in Enfield, NH.

Carol “Jean” Callioras

Lebanon, NH–Carol “Jean” Callioras, age 60, died at her home in Lebanon on November 23, 1999.

She was the daughter of James E. and Evelyn Dickerson Kendall and was born in Hanover, NH on December 26, 1938.

She graduated in 1956 from West Lebanon High School and had worked for the State of New Hampshire Dept. of Labor. She had also owned and operated Woodbury Grocery in Portsmouth, NH for several years, and upon returning to the Upper Valley was employed by Trumbull-Nelson Construction Company in Hanover, NH. Her love for antiques led her to open Blue Bird Antiques and Collectibles in Enfield. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and going to flea markets. Friends called at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Sunday evening. Funeral services were held Monday at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon, with burial to follow in the West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to David’s House, PO Box 768, Hanover, NH 03755.

Clara D. Cutting

Lebanon, NH–Clara D. Cutting, 96, died Sunday evening July 23, 2000 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH where she had been a resident for the last 5 years. She was born in Gardner, MA on Nov. 8, 1904, the eldest child of Lester D. & Alberta (Howard) Jillson. She lived in Whitingham, VT and Millers Falls, MA attending the Millers Falls Elementary School and a secondary business school, at that time known as a normal school. She was married June 24, 1925 to Elmer W. Cutting of Whitingham. He died in 1954. For all of her married life she accompanied her husband on his frequent job moves in MA, VT, and ME, moving more than 35 times. After she was widowed, she did housework & childcare in Hanover, NH and later cared for her elderly father in Millers Falls, MA until he died at the age of 95. She then lived in West Lebanon at Maple Manor until she was no longer able to care for herself. She loved children, especially babies, cats, the Red Sox, and people. Wherever she lived she soon made friends. Over the years she crocheted possibly a hundred afghans, giving them to family and friends. She was a member of the Christian Science Church in Hanover, NH. Before her marriage she was a member of the Grange in Millers Falls, MA and liked to tell how, during WWI, she won 10 pounds of sugar (very scarce at the time) at the Grange meeting. In 1936 she also won an electric washing machine in a Soapine Contest. She could only use this some of the places she lived had no electricity.

She was predeceased by her husband; 2 sons, Calvin & George; 3 brothers, Verne, Kenneth & Carl; 1 sister, Muriel McClellen; 1 granddaughter and 1 great-grandson.

Survivors include: a son, Richard Cutting of Hume, NY; 2 daughters, Louise Hewes of Canaan, NH and Alice Hewes of Etna, NH; a brother, Lester H. Jillson of Chester, PA; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services was held Wednesday evening at 8 pm in the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St., Lebanon, NH. Burial will be in Sadawaga Cemetery in Whitingham, VT. David V. Altmannsberger, Sr.

Enfield, NH–David V. Altmannsberger, Sr., 65, died Thursday evening July 6, 2000. He was born in Clinton, CT July 15, 1934, a son of the late Robert L. and Ida May (Adams) Altmannsberger, and attended schools in the Clinton School System. In 1963 he founded and built the Glenwood Market in Clinton, CT and was owner and proprietor, along with his wife of 44 years Sue (Ward) Altmansberger until 1972. He moved to Grafton, NH where he was a master builder and craftsman until his sudden death while at work on July 6, 2000. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved playing cards.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack St., Suite #1, Manchester, NH 03101-2244.

Herluf K. Hansen

Grafton, NH–Herluf K. Hansen, 70, of Grafton, NH died on Friday evening, June 23, 2000, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He was born in Odense, Denmark on May 23, 1930 a son of Karl and Ane (Sorensen) Hansen. He grew up in Denmark and came to the United States in 1954 living in Michigan. He moved to Framingham, MA in 1960. He worked as a carnation grower at Bay State Carnation Association. He was married to Mildred Robinson on October 27, 1962 and moved to Hopkinton, MA in 1967. He worked at Noremac Machine Company as a machine repair technician until 1992 when he and his wife retired to Grafton, NH. While in Hopkinton he was active in Boy Scouts, Lions Club, and the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife Mildred of Grafton, 2 sons, Nils Hansen of Pepperell, MA and Kurt Hansen of Arlington, VA. 6 brothers, Paul, Bente, and Viggo of Norway, and Uffee, Niels, and Anton of Denmark. 2 sisters, Ester Jensen and Anna Christiansen both of Denmark. Many Nieces and Nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held at the home of Nils and Raylene Hansen, 38-A Shattuck Street, Pepperell, MA on Saturday July 8 from 2 to 5 pm. Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon is in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Paul Edgecomb

Canaan, NH–Dennis Paul Edgcomb, 43, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 1, 2000 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Lowell, MA January 24, 1957, a son of Robert & Priscilla (Carter) Edgecomb. He attended schools in Tewksbury, MA graduating from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 1976. He was employed by Split Ballbearing (now known as Timken Aerospace) in Lebanon, NH for 17 years. He loved horses and owned and operated Broken Branch Stables in Canaan, NH. He was a member of the American Legion where he leaves many friends. Friends were able to call at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St. in Lebanon, NH Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Services followed at 8 pm in the funeral home. A memorial service will also be held in Tewksbury, MA to be announced at a later date.

Michael Richard Darling

Enfield, NH–Michael Richard Darling, 49, of Enfield, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday afternoon. He was born in New Bedford, MA on Sept. 26, 1950 a son of Richard and Shirley (McLeavy) Darling. After graduating from Bishop Stang High School he attended the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, MA. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1970. In 1982 he was married to Debra Beaulieu and they were stationed up and down the East Coast until he retired from the Coast Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1996. They have made their home in Enfield since 1996. Since coming to the Upper Valley he has been employed by Post #22, American Legion of Lebanon as a bartender. He was a member of Post 22 American Legion of Lebanon and the Chief Warrant Officer Association of the United States Coast Guard.

He leaves his mother Shirley Darling of Dartmouth, MA; his wife, Debra of Enfield; 2 daughters, Kelley and Christine Darling of Bar Harbor, ME; a step-son, Gene Gray of Enfield; a sister, Kathleen Wing of Marion, MA; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home on School Street in Lebanon on Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at the Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Claremont, NH at 2 pm on Saturday.

Canaan, NH–Tiffany Julia Fielden, 11, died Thursday night June 29, 2000 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness. She was born in Hanover, NH June 4, 1989, a daughter of Tammy Jean (Fielden) and Mahlon D. Wilson. She has recently completed fourth grade at the Canaan Elementary School. She loved reading and enjoyed animals, bicycle riding, music, TV, swimming and visiting the farm.

She is survived by: Mahlon D. Wilson, father, Enfield, NH; Tammy Jean George, mother, Canaan, NH; John George, Sr., step-father, Canaan, NH; Raymond Willis, Grandfather, Newport, NH; Dorothy Chase, Grandmother, Lebanon, NH; Julia Wilson Labier, Grandmother, Enfield, NH; Addie George, Enfield, NH, step-grandmother; John Patrick George, Jr., brother, Canaan, NH.
