Helen M. Brown

Canaan, NH–Helen M. Brown, 97, died Saturday evening, December 14, 2002 at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare Center in Hanover, NH. She was born in Haverhill, NH January 18, 1905, a daughter of the late William G. and Prudence (Pelton) Wetherbee. A Canaan resident since 1928, she was married May 1, 1930 to Walter R. Brown. She was a former member of the Rebekahs and the Pithian Sisters. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, cooking and crosswords. She loved taking care of her family and would also help neighbors and the elderly.

She was predeceased by her husband Walter R. Brown in 1981; a daughter Doreen Raynor in 1980; a son Harris Brown in 1940; three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include three daughters: Pauline Shaffer of Clinton, IL; Colleen Neily of West Canaan, NH; and Virginia Jalbert of Grafton, NH. Two sons: Gordon Brown Jr. and Roy Brown both of Enfield, NH; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the spring in the Canaan Street Cemetery in Canaan, NH.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to David’s House, PO Box 600, Lebanon, NH 03766.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ricker Funeral Homes & Crematory of Lebanon and Enfield.

Hester E. Legere

Lebanon, NH–Hester E. Legere, 83, died Monday morning November 18, 2002 at the Lebanon Center of Genesis ElderCare in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness. She was born in Dixmount, ME November 1, 1919, a daughter of the late Myrl W. & Eunice (Tinker) Brown. She retired from the Colonial Bookstore in Lebanon where she had worked for many years. She had many hobbies that she loved, including working with crafts and reading.

Hester was predeceased by her husband Frederick “Fred” Legere who died April 22, 1994; and by a sister, Francis E. “Fran” Day who died April 10, 2001.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Mary Ann and Bill Mousley of Enfield, NH; a sister: Hazel Chadbourne of ME; a granddaughter: Heather Newman of Claremont, NH; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Private burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lebanon, NH.

Mary E. Brown

Lebanon, NH–Mary E. Brown, 80, died Thursday August 15, 2002, a Genesis ElderCare in Lebanon, NH.

She was born in Hudson, MA on March 31, 1922, a daughter of Perley W. and Grace (Davis) Wheeler.

A longtime area resident, she was employed at Profile Skiwear for several years, and, for more than 30 years, was a manager of Beverage King in West Lebanon.

She was a member of Mascoma Valley Pomona Grange. And a seventh-degree member of Lebanon Grange No. 125, where she had held several offices, including master. She loved sewing, bingo, cooking, serving suppers at the grange, hosting card parties and the company of friends.

Survivors include five daughters: Ruth Gray and Rita Ryan both of Weirsdale, FL, Rose Welch of Heverhill, Joyce Greene of Claremont and Irene Chamberlin of Lebanon; two sons: Daniel Brown of Bennington, VT and William Brown of Enfield; five sisters, four brothers; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. Graveside committal services were held Sunday at 1:00 pm at Glenwood Cemetery in Lebanon, with the Rev. Virginia Fryer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, Enfield, NH 03748-4207. Arrangements were by Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon.

Raymond T. Brown

Enfield, NH–Raymond T. Brown, 77, died Friday morning, October 6, 2000 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Canaan, NH on October 27, 1922 and had attended local schools. A lifelong Enfield resident, he had been employed by the former Baltic Woolen Mills, and later worked for many years as a custodian at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1992. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Canaan, NH and the Enfield/Mascoma Lions Club. He enjoyed travel and spending time with friends. He was married to Sadie (Sanders) Brown who died October 27, 1992.

He leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Enfield/Canaan area. He was predeceased by his wife and one brother. Graveside committal services will be announced in the near future by the Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon, NH.

Rachel “Betty” Mae Brown

Enfield, NH–Died 11/19/96 at her home in Enfield Center.  Betty was a life-long resident of Enfield Center where she attended school and graduated from Enfield High School.  She was the widow of Charles Brown, Sr.  who died in 1984.  Mrs.  Brown was employed as a private caregiver, providing care for area families in their homes.  Her life was devoted to her family.

Survivors include:  Son, Charles Brown Jr., Enfield Center; Daugher, Betty Sholes, Potter Place; Daughter, Linda Harper, Enfield Center; Daughter, Susan Bishop, Wilmot; Daughter, Judy Bean, Enfield Center; Daughter, Gail Bourassa, Croydon; Brother, David Chase, Lebanon; Bother, Clinton Chase Jr., Enfield Center; Brother, Richard Chase, Enfield; Sister, Shirley Peterson, Enfield Center; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by:  Husband, Charles Brown Sr., died in 1984; Sister, Dorothy Chase.
