William A. LaFountain

Enfield, NH–William A. LaFountain, 90, died Saturday, July 28, 2001 at the Veterans Hospital in White River Jct., VT following a brief illness. He was born in Chicopee Falls, MA on October 13, 1910, a son of the late Albert & Sophie (Murk) LaFountain, and as a young boy had lived on his father’s freighter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and served as a canoneer with the 172nd Field Artillery. A resident of Enfield, NH since 1930, he had worked as an auto mechanic for several years and was the owner/operator of Bill’s Tidol Station. He later went into the carpentry business. He was known as a man who never said “no” to anyone, and would do anything for anyone regardless of their ability to pay. Mr. LaFountain was a member of the Elks for over 30 years. He was married June 1, 1983 to Marion L. (Smith) at St. Helena’s Church in Enfield. Mrs. LaFountain died October 19, 1993.

He was predeceased by his wife, two sisters-Sylvia LaFountain and Laura LaFountain, and a brother, Francis LaFountain. Mr. LaFountain leaves several nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home on Rte 4 in Enfield on Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 am in St. Helena’s Church in Enfield with the Rev. Paul Rainville M.S. officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Enfield, NH.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Mr. LaFountain may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Marion LaFountain

Marion LaFountain, 85, died Tuesday evening October 19 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH.  She was born in Franklin, NH May 31, 1908, the daughter of the late Roscoe B. & Bessie S. (Morrill) Smith,  She was a resident of Canaan, West, Canaan, and Enfield most of her life and attended local schools.  For many years she worked as a spinner in the American and the Baltic Woolen Mills.  She loved to do needlework, and was a  member of Pomona Grange for over 50 years.  She was married to William A. LaFountain June 1, 1983.

Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home, Route 4 in Enfield Friday evening from 7-9 P.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday Morning at 10 A.M. in St. Helenas Church of Enfield.  Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The American Diabetes Association, 104 Middle St., Manchester, NH 03101 or to: a charity of one’s choice.

Survivors include: husband, William A. LaFountain, Enfield, NH; brother, Howard Smith, Newport, NH; several nieces and nephews.

 

Violet T. LaFountain

Enfield, N.H. – Violet T. LaFountain, 79, died at her home Friday morning August 7.  She was born in Ludlow, Vermont, February 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary (Sullivan) Thornton.  She had been employed by the Baltic Mills and later as a cook at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and caring for her many pets.  She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Enfield, N.H.

Graveside committal services were conducted on Tuesday morning in the Pleasant View Cemetery in West Springfield, N.H. The Reverend Chester Kulus, Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Enfield, officiated.

Mrs. LaFountain is survived by a daughter, Beatrice J. Tourville of Lebanon, NH; a son, Hank LaFountain of Enfield, NH; sisters Irene Trottier of Springfield, MO; Edith Bell and Mabel Click, both of Claremont, NH; brothers John Thornton of Grantham, NH, Norris Thornton of Newport, NH, Charles Thornton of Waterboro, ME, Dellivan Thornton of Lakeside, MT, and Russell Thornton of Lebanon, NH; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
