George W. Morse

Canaan, NH–George W. Morse, 81, died Tuesday September 11, 2001 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in White River Jct., VT following a long illness. He was born in Andover, MA October 12, 1919, a son of the late Harry L. & Ruby (Colbuni) Morse. A lifelong resident of Canaan, NH he was a graduate of Canaan High School – Class of 1937. He served 26 years in the United States Air Force. During WWII he served as a B-17 bomber pilot in the European Theatre where he was shot down and became a Prisoner of War in Germany until being liberated at the end of the war. He later was employed as an EPO Mail Carrier in Canaan for 15 years. Following his retirement in 1988 he delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. George was a longtime member of the Canaan Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Humanitarian Award. He was also a member of the American Legion Post of Canaan; had served for 2 terms on the Canaan Board of Selectmen; and enjoyed gardening.

He leaves his wife Irene J. (Roullier) Morse of Canaan whom he married in 1963; and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by a brother Richard Morse and a sister Katherine Follansbee.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside Committal Services will be held Saturday Sept. 22nd at 11 a.m. at the Canaan Street Cemetery in Canaan, NH. The Rev. Gail Dimick will officiate along with members of the American Legion Post of Canaan.

Ada M. Sleeper

Enfield, NH–Ada M. Sleeper, 86, of Enfield, died on Saturday, February 19th at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. She was born in Grafton, NH on July 25, 1913 a daughter of Edwin E. and Lizzie (Martin) Morse. She had been a resident of this area most of her life and was the widow of Lee V. Sleeper who died in 1957. She had worked as a nurse’s aide at Northwood Nursing Home in Manchester for several years. She enjoyed her pets, traveling and country music.

She leaves 6 children; Elizabeth Guerin of Enfield, Betty Dion of Gilford; Sharon Pillsbury of Canaan, Larry Sleeper of Canaan, Kenneth Sleeper of Enfield and Forest Sleeper of Enfield, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters, 2 sons; Lee and Ralph, and a daughter Glenda Ada Sleeper Johnson.

Friends were able to call at Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield on Tuesday, February 22nd. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 23rd at the Community Lutheran Church of Enfield with Pastor John Crilley officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton.

Bernice A. Morse

Enfield, NH–Bernice A.  (Heath) Morse, 104, died Tuesday evening, April 2, 1996 at the McKerley Healthcare Center in Lebanon, NH.  She was born in Grafton, NH May 31, 1891, the daughter of the late Daniel & Lila (Chase) Heath and was an Enfield resident for most of her life.  She attended Enfield and Grafton schools and the Bay Path Institute in Keene, NH.  She was married to Walter C.  Morse Oct.  9, 1911 in Enfield, NH.  Mr.  Morse died Nov.  2, 1987,  She was a past member of the Relham Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star; the Women’s Relief Corps; the Grafton Grange; and the Ladies Society of Congregationalists of Newport, NH.  She was active in church and town affairs.

There were no calling hours.  Graveside services will be held at the Mt.  Calm Cemetery in Enfield Center, NH will be announced at a later date.  The Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon, NH was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include:  a daughter-in-law, Edith E.  Morse of Greenbackville, VT; a grandson, Claude S.  Morse of Manchester, TN; a grandson, Thomas I. Morse of Santa Barbara, CA; a granddaughter, Gail E.  Owens of Brunswick, GA; six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C.  Morse who died Nov.  2, 1987; a daughter, Norman Spaven who died in 1990; a son, Claude V.  Morse who died in 1986; a daughter, Doris Morse who died in 1916; a grandson, Royal H.  Morse who died in 1995; six brothers and one sister.

Verna Isabelle Bocash

Verna Isabelle Bocash, of Enfield, age 64, died November 5, 1993, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.  She was born February 22, 1929 in Grafton, NH, the daughter of Edwin Morse and Elizabeth Martin Morse.  She attended school in Grafton and has lived in this area all her life.  She retired from the housekeeping department of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.  She was a member of the American Legion auxiliary in Danbury.  A graveside service was held in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton.

Survivors include: her husband, Wilfred A. whom she married 43 years ago; daughters Donna E. Bonnier of Plainfield, Ella L. Braley, of Bristol, Joanne I. Routhier of Enfield, Martha G. Routhier of Somersworth; sons, Francis A. Bocash of Claremont and David E. Bocash of Lebanon; Sister, Ada M. Sleeper of Enfield, and brother, Edwin Morse of Grafton; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Archie Earl Morse

Archie Earl Morse, 83, died Thursday evening July 22, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon following a long illness.  He was born in Grafton, NH November 29, 1909, the son of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (Martin) Morse.  He had worked as a farmer all of his life and had attended the Community Lutheran Church of Enfield.  He enjoyed animals and loved country music and dancing.  During his last illness he was cared for by his niece Patricia Shin and his grand-niece Angela Dimond at their home in Enfield, NH.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon.  Burial was in the Pine grove Cemetery in Grafton, NH.

Survivors include: Brother, Edwin Morse, of Grafton, NH, sister, Ada Sleeper, Enfield, NH, sister Verna Bocash, Enfield, NH, grand-niece Angela Dimond, of Enfield, NH, and several other nieces and nephews.
