Howard William Wescott

Howard William Wescott: Howard W. Wescott (77) died suddenly at his home on East Hill Road in Enfield on Wednesday, November 24, 1993.  The son of Leston E. Wescott and Edith M. Cilley, he was born October 20, 1916 in South Danbury, N.H. He had been a resident of Enfield most of his life.  He worked in the Baltic Mill in Enfield for many years before the mills closed.  He later worked for 14 years at Kleen Laundry in Lebanon retiring from there in 1981.  He married Annabelle Wescott in 1941; she died in 1982.  He was a former member of the Enfield Grange and the Enfield C.B. Club.  He and his wife made and sold lawn ornaments for many years at their home in Lockehaven.

Services were held Saturday at Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield.

Survivors include: an uncle, Earl Cilley from Washington, N.H.; a niece, Beverly Yazzetti from Manchester, N.H.; a niece, Bernice Dicey from Derry, N.H.; a niece, Helen Freitas from Goffstown, N.ZH.; a nephew, Gerald Lombard from Boscawen, N.H. and many great nieces and nephews.

Florence Goodwin Tupper

Florence Goodwin Tupper: On November 22, 1993 at 3 p.m., Florence Goodwin Tupper (89) passed away quietly at her home in Enfield, surrounded by five generations of her family.  Born on October 17, 1904 in East Corinth, Vermont, she was the daughter of Pliny Goodwin and Flora Cadarette.

She graduated from Dow Academy in 1923 and had been a resident of Enfield most of her life.  She was married to Charles L. Tupper in 1925, Mr. Tupper died in 1979.  She and her husband owned and operated a filling station in Mont Calm on the old Stoney Brook Road for several years.  They also ran a dairy farm in Enfield for many years.  She was later employed by the Enfield Woolen Mill as a spinner.  She was a journalist for the Enfield newspapers for many years.  She was very active in Enfield Town affairs, serving on various committees including the long-range school committee, which was responsible for building the Mascoma Valley Regional High School, the planning committee, and the zoning board of adjustment.  She was also chairman of the Enfield Democratic Party for several years and served as a delegate to a National Convention in Washington, D.C.  Mrs. Tupper served as Overseer Of The Poor in Enfield for 15 years and was a ballot clerk for 35 years.  She was a member of the Mont Calm Grange, the Rebekahs and the Enfield Community Church.  She was very devoted to her family.

Graveside services were held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Lakeview Cemetery in Enfield.  The family suggested in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to: Mascoma Home Health Services, Church St., Canaan, NH; Hospice of the Upper Valley, Mt. Support Road, Lebanon, N.H.; or Canaan Meals on Wheels, Senior Center, Canaan, NH.

Survivors include a daughter, Fran Perillo from Enfield; a son, Clinton “Bucky” Tupper from Brandon, Florida; a sister, Sylvia Clark from River View, Florida; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

The Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Eunice Sawyer

Clara Eunice Sawyer, 87, of Pillsbury Street, Enfield, NH, died November 19, 1993 at Athol, Ma.  She was born in Springfield, NH, and attended Springfield schools.  She later moved to Enfield Center, NH.  She married Raymond P. Sawyer 11/26/31. She was employed by Baltic, Dorr, and Dewey Woolen Mills as a sewer before the closing of the mills.  Mrs. Sawyer was a 73 year member and Past Master of the Mount Calm Grange and served many years in the Mascoma Valley Pomona and State Grange.  During her retirement she served for over 14 years with the Meals on Wheels and RSVP programs.  She also made stuffed toys for Shriner’s Hospitals and David’s House.

Burial will be in the spring in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Enfield.  The family suggests memorial contributions to The Union Church, %April Farwell, Enfield Center, NH, 03749.

Survivors include: Husband, Raymond, of Enfield; Daughters Delores Smith and Betty Gibbs of Athol, Ma.; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  6 brothers and 2 sisters predeceased her.

Verna Isabelle Bocash

Verna Isabelle Bocash, of Enfield, age 64, died November 5, 1993, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.  She was born February 22, 1929 in Grafton, NH, the daughter of Edwin Morse and Elizabeth Martin Morse.  She attended school in Grafton and has lived in this area all her life.  She retired from the housekeeping department of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.  She was a member of the American Legion auxiliary in Danbury.  A graveside service was held in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton.

Survivors include: her husband, Wilfred A. whom she married 43 years ago; daughters Donna E. Bonnier of Plainfield, Ella L. Braley, of Bristol, Joanne I. Routhier of Enfield, Martha G. Routhier of Somersworth; sons, Francis A. Bocash of Claremont and David E. Bocash of Lebanon; Sister, Ada M. Sleeper of Enfield, and brother, Edwin Morse of Grafton; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

George Henry Shattuck III

Grantham, NH – George Henry Shattuck III, age 39, died October 26.  He was born in Bradford, N.H. on May 24, 1954, the son of George Shattuck Jr. and Madeline (Judge) Shattuck.  He attended school in Bradford and Newbury.  At the time of his death he was employed by the Abnaki Timber Corp. Graveside services were held on Saturday at 1 p. m. in the Canaan Street Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. David Polhemus officiating.  Survivors include his wife, Cathy Shattuck of Canaan, a daughter, Madelyn and son, Matthew of Canaan, a brother, Donald of Grantham and a brother Amos of White River Jct., Vt. A sister, Dorothy Stellar of Lebanon, a sister, Ruth Saunders of Virginia, several nieces and nephews.  He was preceeded in death by his parents.

Louise E. Adams

Louise E. Adams, 66, died Monday morning Oct. 18 at the McKerley Healthcare Center in Lebanon, N.H.  She was born in Enfield, N.H., may 27, 1927, the daughter of the late Albert F. & Gladys M. (Whittier) Wilson.  She had been a lifelong area resident and had worked for many years at the Baltic Woolen Mills.  She loved to work in her flower gardens.

Friends can call at the Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m., funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the West Lebanon Baptist Church on Seminary Hill.  Burial followed in the Lakeview Cemetery in Enfield, N.H., the Rev. Dean Eggert officiated.

Marion LaFountain

Marion LaFountain, 85, died Tuesday evening October 19 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH.  She was born in Franklin, NH May 31, 1908, the daughter of the late Roscoe B. & Bessie S. (Morrill) Smith,  She was a resident of Canaan, West, Canaan, and Enfield most of her life and attended local schools.  For many years she worked as a spinner in the American and the Baltic Woolen Mills.  She loved to do needlework, and was a  member of Pomona Grange for over 50 years.  She was married to William A. LaFountain June 1, 1983.

Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home, Route 4 in Enfield Friday evening from 7-9 P.M.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday Morning at 10 A.M. in St. Helenas Church of Enfield.  Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Eugene Daniel LeBrun

Eugene Daniel LeBrun, Sr. died Saturday, October 23, 1993 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH.

He was born August 30, 1909, in Hartford, Vt., the son of Daniel LeBrun and Laura Courtemanche LeBrun.  He graduated from Sacred Heart School in Lebanon and lived in Lebanon most of his life.  He married Valma Fogg on September 21, 1930.  His life was devoted to his dairy farm in Mascoma that he and his wife took over in 1944.  They also owned and operated LeBrun’s Trailer Park in Lebanon since the fall of 1968.  He once had a milk route in Lebanon foe several years and worked as a plasterer and a brick mason in this area.  He was an active member of the Mascoma Fire Dept. for over 25 years.  This became Lebanon Fire Dept’s Station #3 which Mr. LeBrun retired from as a Lieutenant.

He was very active in the Church of the Seventh Day Adventist where he served as First Elder.

Burial will be in the Etna Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Seventh Day Adventist Church School or Disaster Relief Services, Maple Street, West Lebanon; or the Norris Cotton Cancer Research Center.

Survivors include: his wife, Valma, of Enfield; 5 sons – Eugene of Morristown, NY; Maynard W. of Bedford, NH; Malcolm P. of Modesto, CA; A. Peter of Raymond, NH; and Glenn L. of Stewardson, IL; sisters Sadie Marquis of Lebanon, Margaret Mahoney of Newport, Theresa Lahaye of Lebanon, and Angela Maxham of Farmington, ME; 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Alfred A. Obermeyer, 85, died unexpectedly Saturday, Ocotber 23 at his home on Goose Pond Road in Canaan.

He was born November 3, 1907, in Boston, Mass., and was a son of John A. and Marie (Thorsenson) Obermeyer.

He lived in Newton, Mass. Until he retired to Canaan in 1969, and had worked for B.F. Goodrich in Watertown, Mass. For many years.  He also worked briefly for Miller Auto Co. in White River Junction.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Alice Obermeyer; a son, Edward A. of Smithville, N.J.; three daughters, Jean Pearson of Center Sandwich, Karen Murphy of Lyme and Gretchen Droesch of Conterbury, Conn; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth C. Freeman of LaFayette, Ind.; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Octber 25th at the Community Lutheran church, Main Street, Enfield.

Vicky Ann Sleeper

Vicky Ann Sleeper, age 32, of Enfield, passed away suddenly Saturday morning at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

She was a 1978 graduate of Mascoma High School.  She was employed by Mascoma Savings Bank in Lebanon for 7 years and was currently serving as Head Teller at the Enfield branch.

She had lived in the area all her life.  She was very family oriented and was gifted with artistic and creative abilities.  She was an avid collector of porcelain dolls.  She also built Victorian doll houses which were well known by her friends.

Survivors are: Mother, Marjorie A. Tibbits of Enfield; brother, Tony L. Sleeper of Dorchester; sister Lisa D. Cantlin of Meriden; maternal grandfather, John J. Black of E. Hebron; paternal grandmother, ada M. Sleeper of Enfield; aunt, Kathleen T. Bean of Bradford, Vt; niece, Brittany Sleeper; nephews, Corey and Cody Cantlin and Ryan Sleeper, cousins, Paul and Jason Reney and Kelli Bean of Badford, Vt; and several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.

She was predeceased by her father Lee V. Sleeper; grandmother, Lora B. Black and grandfather, Harold C. Tibbets.

Donald A. Blair

Seward, Alaska – Donald A. Blair, 36, died Sunday (September 26th) in Seward as a result of an ATV accident.

Donald was born in Heidelberg, Germany on October 5, 1956, the son of Jerry amd Nancy Cantlin Blair, formerly of Lebanon.  Donald lived in Southeastern Alaska until 1972 when he moved with his family to Del ray Beach, Florida.  He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1975.

In 1979 he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Beck.  Donald and Susan moved with their family to Seward in 1991 t be near his family and to join the family business, Iceberg & Sun Vending, which he was managing at the time of his death.

Donald enjoyed his family and the great outdoors of Alaska.  He volunteered in many events that involved his family.

Donald is survived by his wife; a son, Brian Daniel, 12; two daughters, Casey Elizabeth, 6, and Brittany Ann, 3; his parents; his brother and sister-inlaw David and Lotta Blair and their three children; his sister and brother-in-law Chuck and Debra Lechner and their three children, all of Seward; and his brother, Daniel of Anchorage, Alaska.  Donald is survived locally by Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins in the Cantlin family.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday (September 30t) at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seward.
