Jessie G. “Thug” Roberts

Lebanon, NH–Jessie “Bing” Roberts, 77, died suddenly early Sunday morning at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Canaan, NH on June 9, 1924 a son of Cyrus and Annabelle (Beaton) Roberts.

He grew up in Canaan, where he later enlisted in the US Army during WWII. He served in the European Theatre and following discharge returned to Lebanon where he was married to Eleanor Jardine on September 14, 1946. They made their home in Lebanon for 43 years. Mrs. Roberts died in 1991. He had been employed by W.C. Eaton, Inc. and Evans Motor Fuels for 28 years retiring in 1983. On May 25, 2000 he was married to Florence King. They enjoyed traveling to Arizona together during the winter. He was a member of the Lebanon Lodge of Elks, American Legion, the Eagles Club and the VFW in White River Jct, VT. He loved his family, working around his home, and spending time at his cabin in Strafford, VT.

He is survived by his wife Florence of Lebanon, 2 sons; James Roberts of W. Lebanon and Donald Roberts of Grantham, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, 6 step-children; David King of Arizona, Bruce King of Lyme, Douglas King of Grantham, Debra Thurston of Lyme, Daniel King of Lancaster and Steven King of Lebanon. Many step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by 3 brothers; John, Leonard and Walter Roberts.

There were no calling hours. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Lebanon with the Rev. Dale Edwards officiating. Burial followed in the W. Lebanon Cemetery. The family suggested in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in his name to the Alopecia Foundation.

Dorothy F. Packard

Lebanon, NH–Dorothy F. Packard, 79, died Wednesday evening February 7, 2001 at the Lebanon Center of Genesis Eldercare in Lebanon, NH following a long illness. She was born in Canaan, NH November 13, 1921, and was the last surviving of 9 children home to the late George & Lucy (Senacal) Decato. A resident of Lebanon for most of her life, she attended local schools and was married to the Donald A. Packard who died in 1983. She had been employed by the former Rockdale Store and by KLEEN Laundry of Lebanon Emblem Club and a longtime volunteer at the Lebanon Senior Center. She loved baking, crocheting and many other crafts.

She was predeceased by her husband: Donald A. Packard; Son: Robert A. Packard Sr.; 2 sisters: Stella Williams and Etta Fontaine; 6 brothers: Eugene Decato, James Decato, Edgar Decato, Forest Decato, Harry Decato and Clarence Decato; and a grandson: Robert A. Packard Jr.

She leaves 2 daughters: Stella Butterfield of Canaan, NH and Marie Jenkins of Lebanon, NH; 4 granchildren: Mark Packard of Orange, NH, Donald Butterfield of Canaan, NH, Daniel Butterfield of Royal Oaks, MI and Jeffrey Jenkins of Lebanon, NH; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St. in Lebanon, NH Sunday from 3-4 & 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 11 am in the Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon. Burial will be in the spring in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon, NH.

Earl J. Brooks

Lebanon, NH–Earl J. Brooks, 82, died Thursday, February 1, 2001 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Lebanon, NH April 22, 1918, a son of the late Charles and Lillian Brooks. He was a longtime Lebanon resident and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish of Lebanon. He had been employed as a cab driver in Lebanon, a buss driver for VT Transit, and had retired as a truck driver for Decato Brothers Trucking of Lebanon. His life was dedicated to his family and his wife of 60 years Mary (Conroy) Brooks.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Conroy) Brooks of Lebanon, NH. A daughter, Hazel Hollenbeck of Enfield. Two sons, Earl F. Brooks (address unlisted) and Daniel J. Brooks of Somersworth, NH. A sister, Katherine Deveney of Enfield, nine grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Ernie Brooks, and a daughter, Marlene Marsh; three brothers-Charles, Roger and Leon Brooks and a sister, Lillian (Brooks) Deveney.

Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St. in Lebanon Monday evening from 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 am in the Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon. The Rev. Gerald Baril M.S. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lebanon.

Francis J. Bushee

Lebanon, NH–Francis J. Bushee, 84, died Friday April 6, 2001 at the Brookside Nursing Home in White Rive Jct., VT following a long illness. He was born in Boston, MA June 11, 1916, a son of the late John & Celia (Callan) Bushee and moved to Lebanon, NH that same year. In November 1940 he joined Co.G. 172nd Infantry of the National Guard in Windsor, VT which became federalized in 1941. He stayed with Co.G. for the duration of WWII being stationed at Camp Blanding, FL; Camp Shelby, MS; Camp Perry and Fort Ord, CA; and three years of service in the South Pacific. He received a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge and other citations. He was discharged in August 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He worked for 28 years as a mail clerk at the Veterans Administration in White River Jct., VT. Following his retirement he worked for five years as a Lebanon Police Crossing Guard on Hanover Street in Lebanon…a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion of White River Jct., VT, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Hartford, VT Elks.

Survivors include his wife: Ruth (Dion) Bushee of Lebanon, NH whom he married in 1949; one daughter, Francine Lozeau of Enfield, NH; one son, Stephen Bushee of Wayland, MA; two sisters, Dorothy Andrews of Lebanon, NH and Margaret Germain of Leicester, MA; four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Bushee in 1978.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Monday evening from 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm at the Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon. Burial will be at a later date in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Phyllis E. Rogers

Lebanon, NH–Phyllis E. Rogers, 74, died at her home Thursday, March 8, 2000 following a long illness. She was born in Dorchester, NH on July 5, 1925, and had been a resident of the Canaan, NH area most of her life until moving to Lebanon when she was married to her husband of 30 years, Stanley F. Rogers, Sr. on Feb. 18, 1970. She enjoyed arts and crafts; crocheting; and wreath making for the Enfield-Mascoma Lions Club. She was a member and past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post of White River Jct., VT where she was also Buddy Poppy Chairman.

A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon at 2 pm in the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St., Lebanon, NH. The Pastor John Crilley will officiate. Friends may visit one half hour prior to the service.

Clayton R. “Hutch” Hutchins, 51, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Hanover, NH January 24, 1949, a son of Marjorie (Berry) and Russell O. Hutchins. He grew up in Norwich, VT and he worked in the construction business, and for the last many years, had owned and operated his own business — Clayton Hutchins Excavating. He was a member of the Hartford Elks, and the Lebanon Lions Club. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, animals, football, and most of all his grandchildren.

Services were held on Saturday morning at 10 am in Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield with Rev. Dale Edwards, officiating. The family requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: The Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 1038, White River Junct., VT 05001.

Elwyn Baxter Chamberlin

Lebanon, NH–Elwyn Baxter Chamberlin, 82, of Lebanon, died Saturday, February 5th at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

He was born in West Swanzey, NH, on Dec. 23, 1917, a son of Clifford Harvey Chamberlin and Lena Vera (Starkey) Chamberlin. He grew up in West Swanzey and was a graduate of Keene High School. He was married to Irene Brown in 1973 and had been a resident of this area for the past 26 years. He was employed at Mascoma Savings Bank in Lebanon before his retirement. He had also been a carpenter in this area for many years. He will be remembered for helping out recently at the Beverage King in West Lebanon following his retirement.

He was an active member, lay minister and past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the First Baptist Church in Lebanon. He was also active in the Grange, holding many offices, including overseer of the New Hampshire State Grange. He also was the recipient of a 65 year membership medal for the Grange. He was also a member of the Lebanon Lodge of Elks and a past member of the Free and Accepted Masons.

Mr. Chamberlin served as a justice of the peace, notary public and on the Bicentennial Commission of Lebanon. He enjoyed singing, woodworking, public speaking, fishing and especially spending time with his granddaughter.

He leaves his wife, Irene Chamberlin, of Lebanon; two daughters, Sarah of Lebanon and Sally of Keene; and a granddaughter.

Friends were able to call at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Tuesday, Feb. 8th from 7-9 pm. The Elks held a memorial service at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 9th at 2 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Dale Edwards officiating.

Clara D. Cutting

Lebanon, NH–Clara D. Cutting, 96, died Sunday evening July 23, 2000 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH where she had been a resident for the last 5 years. She was born in Gardner, MA on Nov. 8, 1904, the eldest child of Lester D. & Alberta (Howard) Jillson. She lived in Whitingham, VT and Millers Falls, MA attending the Millers Falls Elementary School and a secondary business school, at that time known as a normal school. She was married June 24, 1925 to Elmer W. Cutting of Whitingham. He died in 1954. For all of her married life she accompanied her husband on his frequent job moves in MA, VT, and ME, moving more than 35 times. After she was widowed, she did housework & childcare in Hanover, NH and later cared for her elderly father in Millers Falls, MA until he died at the age of 95. She then lived in West Lebanon at Maple Manor until she was no longer able to care for herself. She loved children, especially babies, cats, the Red Sox, and people. Wherever she lived she soon made friends. Over the years she crocheted possibly a hundred afghans, giving them to family and friends. She was a member of the Christian Science Church in Hanover, NH. Before her marriage she was a member of the Grange in Millers Falls, MA and liked to tell how, during WWI, she won 10 pounds of sugar (very scarce at the time) at the Grange meeting. In 1936 she also won an electric washing machine in a Soapine Contest. She could only use this some of the places she lived had no electricity.

She was predeceased by her husband; 2 sons, Calvin & George; 3 brothers, Verne, Kenneth & Carl; 1 sister, Muriel McClellen; 1 granddaughter and 1 great-grandson.

Survivors include: a son, Richard Cutting of Hume, NY; 2 daughters, Louise Hewes of Canaan, NH and Alice Hewes of Etna, NH; a brother, Lester H. Jillson of Chester, PA; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services was held Wednesday evening at 8 pm in the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St., Lebanon, NH. Burial will be in Sadawaga Cemetery in Whitingham, VT. Carol “Jean” Callioras

Lebanon, NH–Carol “Jean” Callioras, age 60, died at her home in Lebanon on November 23, 1999.

She was the daughter of James E. and Evelyn Dickerson Kendall and was born in Hanover, NH on December 26, 1938.

She graduated in 1956 from West Lebanon High School and had worked for the State of New Hampshire Dept. of Labor. She had also owned and operated Woodbury Grocery in Portsmouth, NH for several years, and upon returning to the Upper Valley was employed by Trumbull-Nelson Construction Company in Hanover, NH. Her love for antiques led her to open Blue Bird Antiques and Collectibles in Enfield. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and going to flea markets. Friends called at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Sunday evening. Funeral services were held Monday at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon, with burial to follow in the West Lebanon Cemetery. Sophronia M. Thibodeau

Lebanon, NH–Sophronia M. Thibodeau, 93, died Wednesday August 4, 1999 at the Cedar Hill Nursing Home in Windsor, VT. She was (Upton) Santy. She grew up in Lyman and Lisbon, NH and attended local schools. She was a resident of Canaan, NH from 1945-1965 then moving to Lebanon, NH. She had been a resident of Cedar Hill for the last 10 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to sing and dance, and spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will follow in the Wells Cemetery in Canaan, NH.
