Myrtle “Nell” Patterson

Brattleboro, VT–Myrtle “Nell” Patterson, 78, died Sunday, June 23, 1996 at the Eden Park Nursing Home following a brief illness.

Mrs.  Patterson was born in Marshall, TX on July 15, 1917, the daughter of James A.  and Myrtle (Keese) Fish.  She attended local schools in Marshall and was a graduate of El Dorado High School, AK in 1937.

On October 1, 1942 she married John Joseph Patterson in the Emanuel Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA.  Mr.  Patterson died in May of 1983.

A former resident of Grafton, NH, Mrs.  Patterson moved to Brattleboro in 1986.  She was a devoted mother and homemaker who had also been employed by Dartmouth College for several years.

Mrs.  Patterson was a charter member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Henry E.  Staniels Unit No.  97 in Grafton.  She was also a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Brattleboro.  She liked spectator sports, especially baseball and hockey.  She also enjoyed embroidery, playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren, friends and family.

She is survived by a son, Thomas A,  Patterson of Brattleboro, VT; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A son, John J.  Pattterson Jr., died in November 1984.  A sister, Eloise F.  Hall and a brother, James A.  Fish Jr., died previously.

Calling hours were held at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro and the funeral service was held at the funeral home with the funeral home with the Rev.  Steve McClelland, pastor of the West Brattleboro Baptist Church officiating.  Bjurial followed in the Patterson family lot in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton, NH.
