Canaan, NH–Ruby May Lord, 80, died Friday March 26, 1999 at the Mt. Ascutney Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor, VT following a long illness. She was born in Canaan, NH September 22, 1918, the daughter of the late Earl & Marion (Lary) White. A lifelong resident of Canaan she was a graduate of Canaan High School-Class of 1937. She was married to Selden W. Lord on September 30, 1939 in Hiram, ME. They were wonderful dancers and enjoyed dancing socially and had won several awards. Ruby was a 65-year member of the Grange reaching the 7th Degree level. She had held all offices of the Indian River Grange and was Past Master several times. She also held offices with the Mascoma Valley Pamona Grange, and was a member of the State and National Grange. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Canaan where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was an avid supporter of Little League and American Legion Baseball having been the scorekeeper at most games. She was a member of the Mascoma Booster Club and the Green Mountain Horse Association. She had volunteered at the Mascoma and Lebanon Senior Centers and Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. In 1975 & 1977 she had volunteered for two weeks at the Methodist Mission at Henderson Settlement in Kentucky. Ruby had been employed by, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH for 13 years retiring in 1984.
Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home, Route 4 in Enfield, Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2pm in the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Williams officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Wells Cemetery in Canaan.
