Canaan, NH–Jean A. Ellms, 77, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, 1995 at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare Center in Hanover, NH following a long illness. She was born in Medford, MA June 13, 1918, the daughter of the late Harold & Claire Ashton. She was married to Norman H. Ellms on Dec. 23, 1939. They lived in Millers Falls, MA before coming to Canaan more than 36 years ago. They owned and operated an apple farm in Millers Falls for 10 years and owned and operated the Trewald Crest Farm on Sawyer Hill in Canaan from 1959 until 1975.
Mr. Ellms died in 1982. She had been employed by Liberty Mutual Ins. Co., in Cambridge, MA. In latr years Jean was employed by the Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan retiring in 1994. She loved skiing especially at Tuckermans Ravine. She also loved animals and spending time with her family.
There were no calling hours. A memorial service was held in the Chapel at Cardigan Mountain School on Saturday, Oct 28 at 10 a.m. Burial followed in the Sawyer Hill Cemetery in Canaan with the Rev. Harold Finkbeiner officiating. The family requested in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to The Upper Valley Humane Society, HC-63 Box 52-A, Lebanon, NH 03766.
Survivors include: a daughter, Susan Clinger of Pittsford, NY; a daughter Marjorie Tassey of Gorham, NH; a daughter, Nancy Giaconne of Grantham, NH; a son, Christopher Ellms of Danbury, NH; a son, Hal Ellms of Grey, ME; a sister, Ruth Whittaker of Mansfield, MA; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon was in charge of arrangements.
