Joseph Robert Bosley

Enfield, NH–Joseph Robert Bosley, 79, died Sunday January 18, 1998 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct., VT. He was born in Dalton, MA July 22, 1918, the son of John and Evangeline (Goddard) Bosley. He attended schools in Dalton, MA and Torrington, CT. He spent 2 years in the Civil Conservation Corps in Palisades, CO working on a dam on the Colorado River. He was married to Laura (Chapman) on June 1, 1941 in Meriden, NH. They went to Litchfield, CT to live where he was a foreman on a large dairy farm. He served in the Army with the 20th Armored Division in the European Theatre during WWII. Following his discharge he settled in Meriden. He spent 2 years in the Agriculture School in West Lebanon while he was building up his poultry farm. He produced about 40,000 broilers per year. Later he changed to laying hens from which he produced eggs for the Re & White stores in NH, VT, and MA. He set up the first cage layer outfit in NH which housed 12,000 birds in one building. He was an avid coon hunter and fisherman and a good sportsman.

Surviors include: his wife of Lebanon; a son, David R. Bosley of Plant City, FL; a sister, Olive Anstette of Torrington, CT; a brother, John Bosley of Floral City, FL; 3 granddaughters, 2 grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren. Joseph is preceded in death by his father, John Bosley; his mother, Evangeline (Goddard) Bosley; his youngest son, Thomas Bosley who died in 1965, 4 sisters and 5 brothers.

Burial will be in the spring in the Mill Cemetery in Meriden, NH. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: Shaker Recreation Facility, c/o Jane Plumley, PO Box 756, Enfield, NH 03748.
