Carl J. Laurie Sr.

East Plainfield, NH–Carl Joseph Laurie Sr., 88, died Wednesday morning March 19, 2003 at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in White River Jct., VT following a long illness. He was born in Strafford, VT October 18, 1914, a son of the late David & Belle Rose (Raymo) Laurie. He lived in Norwich, VT and attended schools there. He was a veteran of the US Army Medical corps during WWII and served in the Philippines and Luzon Island. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star, and the Victory Medal. He lost his only brother in the infantry also on Luzon Island. On September 27, 1947 he was married to Louise (Tolbert) and had 5 children. Carl and Louise spent their entire married life in the Upper Valley of NH and since 1991 had made their home with their daughter and son-in-law in East Plainfield, NH. Carl had worked a various jobs in the Upper Valley. Most recently he had been employed at the Windsor (VT) Foundry. He had retired from the E. Cummings Leather Co. after more than 20 years of service.

He was predeceased by a sister Mabel Quimby and a brother Eli P. Laurie. Survivors include his wife Louise of East Plainfield; a daughter Betty Dellabough of East Plainfield; 4 sons: Carl J. Laurie Jr. of Concord, NH, Edward A. Laurie of Enfield, NH, Raymond E. Laurie and Gary W. Laurie both of Lebanon, NH; a sister, Rose Coleman of Lebanon, NH; a granddaughter, Jolene Laurie of Lebanon, NH; 4 grandsons: Jeffery Dellabough of Lebanon, NH, Corey Dellabough of Wilder, VT, Jonathan Laurie of Denver, CO and William Buckwold of Lebanon, NH; 2 great-grandaughters: Kimberly Dellabough and Danielle Welch both of Hartland, VT; 2 great-grandsons: Cody and Brandon Dellabough of Wilder, VT; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St., in Lebanon, NH Thursday evening from 7-9. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Dale Edwards officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the East Plainfield Cemetery.
