Albert T. LaCroix, Sr.

Lebanon, NH–Albert T. LaCroix, Sr., 86, died Friday August 13, 1999 at the Brookside Nursing Home in Wilder, VT, following a long illness. He was born in St. Germaine, Quebec, Canada, on June 18, 1913, the son of the late Zephyre & Leontine (Bellavance) LaCroix. He was a longtime resident of Lebanon, NH. For several years, he was employed as a cook at Kimball Union Academy and at area restaurants, including Ponzi’s. The Brick Hearth, and others. He was also a driver for LaCroix’s Taxi. Albert was a member of the Lebanon Lodge of Elks, and was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon.

Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St in Lebanon, on Friday, August 27th from 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 28th at 10:00 am in the Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Albert’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Survivors include: Sons: Albert T. LaCroix, Jr., of Canaan, NH and Donald LaCroix, of North Hampton, NH. Daughter, Mary Ann Lane, of Goffstown, NH. Brothers: Didance LaCroix, of Enfield, NH; Antonio “Tony” LaCroix, of Lebanon, NH and Ferdinand LaCroix, of Littleton, NH. Grandsons: Thomas LaCroix, of Canaan, NH and Jeffrey Lane, of Arizona, and Granddaughter, Christine Piscopo, of Canaan, NH; 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Blanchard) LaCroix, who died Sept. 18, 1992.

Alice M. Valliere

Lebanon, NH–Alice M. Valliere, a longtime Upper Valley resident, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH. She was born in Lebanon, NH the daughter of Arthur J. and Celina (LaLonde) Manville. She was a greduate of Springfield (VT) High School, and for many years was employed as an L.P.N. at Dartmouth Hitchcock clinic in Hanover, NH. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Lebanon, NH.

There were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday morning at 11 am at Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Dept 300, PO Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon, NH.

Rena May Heaney

Lebanon, NH–Rena May Heaney, 93, died Monday, March 8, 1999 at the Lebanon Center of Genesis Elder Care. She was born in Plainfield, NH on February 4, 1906, the daughter of the late Ernest & Lucinda (Bartlett) Goodwin. She attended Kimball Union Academy; was a member of the Community Lutheran Church of Enfield; and a member of the Relham Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was married to the late Walter Coutermarsh Sr., and later was married to the late John Heaney.

There will be no calling hours. Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Public graveside services will be held in the spring at the Lakeview Cemetery in Enfield. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Commuity Lutheran Church, S. Main St., Enfield, NH 03748.

Margaret Mary Ashley

Lebanon, NH–Margaret M. Ashley, 77, died Tuesday afternoon at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness. She was born in Lebanon, April 3, 1920, the daughter of the late Joseph and Albina (Naeru) Crate. A resident of Lebanon all her life, she was the widow of Raymond Ashley who died September 20, 1978. Before her retirement in 1981, she had been a clerk in the Meat Department of the Firt National Stores for 31 years. She had also worked at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH in the Housekeeping Department. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon where she had been a Euchasristic Minister. She was also a member of the Lebanon Fire Department Auxiliary.

Survivors include: 2 sons, William L. Ashley of Canaan, John J. Ashley of Center Harbor; a daughter, Susan Ames of Fort Dodge, IA; 2 brothers, Alexander Crate of Lebanon and Donald Crate of Enfield; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Margaret is preceded in death by: her father, Joseph Crate; her mother, Albina Naeru; her husband, Raymond Ashley who died September 20, 1978; a daughter, Theresa Ashley who died in 1967; a brother, Maurice Crate who died in 1996; and a sister, Alice Langley who died in 1992.

Helen R. Smith

Lebanon, NH–Helen R. Smith, 84, died Thursday morning February 19, 1998 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH. She was born in Coram, NY November 28, 1913. She had been a resisdent of this area since 1985 having previously lived in Epson, NH and had been employed as a Registered Nurse at the McKerley Nursing Home in Concord, NH. She enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques.

Survivors include: a son, Lyell C. Smith, Jr., Orange, NH; a daughter, Madeline C. Steed, Alexandria, VA; 3 sisters, Marjorie Hawkins, Port Jefferson, L.I., NY, Mary Martin, Mastic Beach, L.I., NY, Savilla O’Brien, Oreland, PA; a brother, George K. Smith, Oreland, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Helen is preceded in death by a brother, Edward Smith; and a sister, Josephine Gehring.

Services will be held on Long Island, NY at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in memory of Hellen may be made to: Organizations involved in the research of Parkinson’s Disease. Arrangements are under the directions of the Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon, NH.

Adrian Lionel “Boots” Jette

Lebanon, NH–Adrian L. “Boots” Jette, 80, died Saturday morning, January 18, 1997, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He was born in Lebanon, NH April 5, 1916, the son of Napoleon A. and Albina (LaLiberte) Jette. He graduated from Sacred Heart School and attended Lebanon High School where he was proud to have been on the Class of 1934 undefeated season football team. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great interest in football. Mr. Jette was a 23 year volunteer fireman on the Lebanon Fire Department; was a life member of the NH State Fireman’s Association; and was a past president of the Lebanon Fireman’s Association. He was also a life member of the Hartford, VT Lodge of Elks. He had been employed as a spinner in the Lebanon Woolen MIlls, and later became Supervisor of the Buildings and Ground Dept. of Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH; retiring April 1, 1979. He was married to Regis (Heath) on Sept. 5, 1938.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School Street in Lebanon, and a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, January 21, at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon. Burial followed in the Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial contributions be made to the Upper Valley Senior Center, 10 Campbell St., Lebanon, NH 03766.

Survivors include: Wife Regis H. (Heath) Jette, Lebanon; Sons: Earl R. Jette, Lebanon; and James J. Jette of Enfield; Daughters: Marguerite E. Baliko, Valley Lee, MD, and Anne M. Jette, Lebanon. Sisters: Yvonne St. Jean, Lebanon and Helen Bonneau of Williston, VT and brother Philip Jetter of Silver Springs, FL; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen Irene Blanchard

Lebanon, NH–Helen Irene Blanchard, 79, died at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon on Friday, February 7, 1997. The daughter of Leon & Lula (Taft) Hackett, she was born on April 28, 1917 in Springfield, VT. Mrs. Banchard was an Upper Valley resident all of her life and was a graduate of Springfield High School. In 1941 she was married to Herman Blanchard, Mr. Blanchard died in 1956. For 29 years she was employed as a Nursing Associate at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover retiring in 1982. She was a caregiver her all of her adult life. She was a member of the West Lebanon Congregational Church; The Meriden Grange; The Kings Daughters; and was a volunteer for the hospice of the Upper Valley after retiring in 1982.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 3-4 p.m. and Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in West Lebanon. Burial will be in the spring in the Moulton Cemetery in Meriden. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of the Upper Valley, Mt. Support Rd, Lebanon, NH 03766 or to The West Lebanon Congregational Church, Maple St, W. Lebanon, NH 03784.

Survivors include: a son, George Blanchard of Lebanon; a daughter, Sue Ann Gallant of Salina, KS; a daughter, a daughter, Mary Lou Hannah of Lebanon; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several cousins.

Florence Atwood Guthrie

Lebanon, NH–Florence Atwood Guthrie, 108, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997 at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, NH. She was born in Lubec, ME June 1, 1888, and was the last surviving of five children born to the late David & Sarah (Lake) Moore. She had been a longtime resident of Lebanon, NH where she attended the First Baptist Church. She loved to cook and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the widow of Henry E. Guthrie who died Oct. 29, 1974.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Lebanon with the Rev. Dale Edwards officiating. Burial followed in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon.

Survivors include: his son, Clifford Guthrie of Quechee, VT; a son, Gleason Guthrie of Canaan, NH; a son, Douglas Guthrie of West Canaan, NH; a daughter, Vivian Tinker of West Canaan (formerly Lubec, ME); a daughter, Daisy Sunn of Canaan, NH; a daughter, Jennie Biggs of North Walpole, NH; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Althea King Decato

Lebanon, NH–Althea King Decato, 80, passed away on April 28, 1997 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH. The daughter of Rolland Delancy King and Josephine Segrid Monell, she was born in Canaan, NH on December 15,1916. She attended Canaan schools and was a graduate of Canaan High School. She later graduated from the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. She was married to Gleason C. Decato, Sr. in January of 1938. Mr. Decato died in 1987. She had been a resident of Canaan most of her life and had been employed by the Canaan Reporter Newspaper. In 1976 she moved to Lebanon and was employed as a sales clerk at Currier & Company of Lebanon until the stores closing. She was a member of the Canaan Women’s Club, The United Methodist Women, and had sung in the church choir. While in Lebanon, she attended the First Baptist Church.

There were no calling hours. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Canaan with burial following in the Wells Cemetery in Canaan.

Survivors include: a son, Thomas P. Decato of Lebanon; a son, Gleason C. Decato Jr. of Orange; a daughter, Priscilla Boissoneault of Fairfax, VT; a daughter, Alicia Lowe of Hyde Park, VT; a daughter, Penelope F. Bagalio of Barre, VT; a sister, Lily Clark of Lucerne Valley, CA; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Edith Myrtle Chesley

Lebanon, NH–Edith M. Chesley, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness. She was born in Mascoma (Lebanon), NH Feb. 28, 1915, the daughter of Everett & Grace Estes. She was married to Boyd Jerome Chesley Sr. on June 29, 1947.

Edith worked at the Enfield Woolen Mill for 37 years, and later worked for Split Ball Bearing for 8 years until her retirement. A longtime sportswoman, for her love for hunting and fishing was well known in the Upper Valley by many outdoorsmen. She was a past member of the Lebanon Emblem Club. Friends may call at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St. in Lebanon, NH Thursday evening from 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 10 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Dale Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon.
