Lebanon, NH–Margaret M. Ashley, 77, died Tuesday afternoon at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness. She was born in Lebanon, April 3, 1920, the daughter of the late Joseph and Albina (Naeru) Crate. A resident of Lebanon all her life, she was the widow of Raymond Ashley who died September 20, 1978. Before her retirement in 1981, she had been a clerk in the Meat Department of the Firt National Stores for 31 years. She had also worked at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH in the Housekeeping Department. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon where she had been a Euchasristic Minister. She was also a member of the Lebanon Fire Department Auxiliary.
Survivors include: 2 sons, William L. Ashley of Canaan, John J. Ashley of Center Harbor; a daughter, Susan Ames of Fort Dodge, IA; 2 brothers, Alexander Crate of Lebanon and Donald Crate of Enfield; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Margaret is preceded in death by: her father, Joseph Crate; her mother, Albina Naeru; her husband, Raymond Ashley who died September 20, 1978; a daughter, Theresa Ashley who died in 1967; a brother, Maurice Crate who died in 1996; and a sister, Alice Langley who died in 1992.
