Jeannine Marie Rowell

Lebanon, NH–Jeannine Marie Rowell, 66, a longtime area resident, died Monday, January 1, 1996 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.  She was born in Montreal P.Q., Canada March 1, 1929, the daughter of the late Alde J.  & Georgiana (Desrosiers) Bergeron.  A longtime resident of the Upper Valley she had attended Sacred Heart Church of Lebanon.  Many area residents knew her as “Grammy” and she will be lovingly remembered by her family as a very caring and giving person.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School Street in Lebanon on Thursday afternoon from 1-2 p.m.  Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev.  John F.  Mullin S.J.  officiating.  Burial will follow in the spring in the Lakeview Cemetery in Enfield.

The family requested that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made for Cardiac Care & Research, c/o Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Dr, Lebanon, NH  03756.

Survivors include:  a son, Ronald Tetreault of Lebanon, NH; a son, Richard Tetreault of Enfield, NH; a son, Mark Teteault of S.  Royalton, VT; a daughter, Corinne Alger of S.  Royalton, VT; a daughter, Jacqueline White of Hartford, VT; a brother, Fernand Bergeron of Lebanon, NH; a brother, Maurice Bergeron of Lebanon, NH; a brother, Real Bergeron of W. Hartford, VT; a brother John Bergeron of Montreal P.Q., Canada; a sister, Marie Mayette of Rockville, CT; a sister, Claudette Dion of Montreal P.Q., Canada; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

John L. Papineau

Lebanon, NH–John L.  Papineau, 80, died Tuesday morning at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.  He was born in Montreal, Canada May 17, 1916, the son of the late Elziar & Eleza (Pion) Papineau.  He was raised in Canada and later had lived and worked in Concord, NH for many years.  He had been a resident of Lebanon, NH since 1992.

Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon, NH was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include:  his wife, Lillian B.  (McAlister) Papineau of Lebanon, NH; a stepdaughter, Jean L.  Cotting of Orange, NH; a stepson, Fred E.  Cornwell of Enfield, NH; a stepson, Richard C Marsh of Enfield, NH; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Peter Frank Kilton

Lebanon, NH–Peter F. Kilton, 30, died Monday evening, December 25, 1995 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a long battle with cerebral palsy.  He was born in Claremont, NH December 9, 1965 and had been a resident of the Upper Valley for most of his life.  He attended Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center and later received a diploma from Lebanon High School.  He had been a resident of Horseheads, NY for few years prior to returning to Lebanon in September of this year.  He was a past member of the Crystal Valley Grange of Dundee, NY and attended the West Lebanon Baptist Church.

Peter had a big heart and loved people.  He wrote poetry and had recently printed his first book entitled “The Snowbird Flies.”  He had participated in the Special Olympics where he received several awards in bowling, 2nd place in the wheelchair race, and a gold medal for the softball throw.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m.  Funeral services were conducted on Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the West Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev.  Dean Eggert officiating.  Burial followed in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon.

Memorial contributions can be made to the:  West Lebanon Baptist Church, 114 Seminary Hill, Lebanon, NH  03784, or to the organizations involved with cerebral palsy support and research.

Survivors include:  his mother, Elizabeth M. (Braley) Kilton of Lebanon, NH; his father, Roy A.  Kilton of Lebanon, NH; a sister, Pamela Coburn of Ulysses, PA; a sister, Karen Kilton of East Dover, VT; a brother, Kenneth Kilton; many aunts and uncles including a great-aunt, Martha Perkins of Lyme, NH; a maternal grandmother, Dorothy Braley of Canaan, NH; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Vivian Kilton of Canaan, NH; two nephews and many cousins.

Agnes L. LaLiberte

Lebanon, NH–Agnes L.  LaLiberte, 83, died October 18, 1995 at McKierley’s Healthcare Center in Lebanon, NH.  The daughter of the late John Goodell and Julia O.   Stevens, she was moved to Lebanon from Littleton with her family at the age of 12.  She attended Lebanon High School where she played basketball.  She was married to Oscar N.  LaLiberte on Oct. 20, 1949.  In 1950 they began the operation of Oscar’s Trailer Park and Oscar’s General Store on the Mt.  Support Road in Lebanon.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Lebanon.

Mr. LaLiberte died in 1984.  She also worked for 20 years at Carter & Churchill in Lebanon.  Mrs.  LaLiberte retired from her family business in 1982.  Agnes enjoyed snowshoeing until she was in her 70’s, she also enjoyed feeding birds, tending to her yard and garden, flowers, and spending time with her family.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Thursday afrernoon from 2-4 p.m. and Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon with burial following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Survivors include:  a daughter, Loretta LaBarre Despres of Granger, IN;  a son, Paul R.  LaBarre of Southington, CT; a daughter, Theresa E.  Boutin of Lebanon; a sister, Violet Logan of Lebanon, a sister, Margaret Kelly of Lebanon, a sister, Rachel Caron of Goshen, a sister, Alice Caron of Goshen, a sister, Dorothy Trottier of Lyme, 13 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

E. Cecile Broughall

Lebanon, NH–E.  Cecile Broughall, 58, died suddenly on Monday, October 16 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.  She was born in Lebanon Dec 14, 1936 the daughter of Alban and Lorraine (LaCourse) Yelle.  She was a lifelong resident of Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School.  She later attended Plymouth State College.  She was married to Stephen E. Broughall Feb. 5, 1965.  Mr.  Broughall died on Feb. 26, 1995.  She served in the capacity of City Clerk, Ward I Election Moderator, Trustee of Trust Funds Bookkeeper, and was acting city Manager while in-between-Managers.  She was an active member of the New Hampshire Government Finance Officers Association and was a member and past president of the Lebanon Business and Professional Women’s Organization.  She was also a member and officer of the Court St. Teresa Catholic Daughters of America and the Claremont Chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America.  She was an active and devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish where she served on the Parish Council, Social Committee, Martha’s Ministry, and was also a Eucharistic Minister.  She served as an R.S.V.P. volunteer, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was the volunteer bookkeeper for the Grafton County Senior Citizens Council.  She worked at the Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years.  She and her husband Steve were the co-organizers of the annual Thanksgiving Dinners at the Sacred Heart Parish and the Christmas Dinners at Holy Redeemer Church in West Lebanon.  She also served in the information booth on the Park in Lebanon.  Mrs.  Broughall was awarded the “Key to the City” of Lebanon on May 10, 1991.  A Resolution was passed by the New Hampshire State Senate on May 10, 1991 honoring her in her retirement and by the Lebanon City Council as well.  Even though she was an active volunteer in the community, her life was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren.

Her family includes: a son, Gary Broughall of Grantham; two daughters, Linda Kosierk of Enfield and Holly Bergeron of Lebanon.  A step-son, Lt.  Col.  Stephen E.  Broughall Jr.  of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Bernard Yelle of Lebanon; two sisters, Barbara Valentine and Maxine Lane both of Lebanon; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Tuesday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. and Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Lebanon on Wednesday at 11 a.m., cremation followed with the burial in the  Mt.  Calvary Cemetery on Thursday at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Sacred Heart Church Memorial Fund, Hough St, Lebanon, NH  03766 or to the Lebanon Senior Citizens Center, Campbell St, Lebanon, NH  03766.

Alma Townsend Clark

Lebanon, NH–Alma Townsend Clark, 77, of Lebanon, NH, died gently on August 1, 1995, at her summer home in Charlotte, VT.

Mrs.  Clark, a lifelong resident of Lebanon, NH, was born there on January 13, 1918, in the home of her parents, Philip Nelson Townsend and Mabelle Peabody Townsend.

She was a graduate of Lebanon High School and of Northampton Business College in Northampton, MA.  She and her husband, Arthur J.  Clark, owned and operated the Honey Gardens Dairy and the Honey Gardens Health Food Store of Lebanon, NH. She and her husband, Arthur, supported the Hanover and Upper Valley Food Co-ops and the Learning School of Norwich, VT.

Mrs.  Clark’s many interests include astronomy, bird watching, landscaping with wild plants, exploring country roads, and playing classical, popular, improvisational, and ragtime piano, and traveling.  She enjoyed the theater, concerts, lectures, recitals, films, foreign movies, public and informational  television, short-wave radio, and music, especially opera.

Mrs.  Clark was an amateur photographer and a member of the Photographic Society of America.  For many years a snapshot she took of her young son in a hat looking out a truck’s window was displayed in various sizes on a poster outside the Camera Shop on Allen St.

She was interested in health and nutrition, which she studied and put into practice.  She worked out regularly on the Nautilus machines at Carter-Witherell, and a photograph of her husband can be seen on a current brochure.

She enjoyed bicycling, sometimes cycling 10 miles or more to a family or friend’s house, usually before breakfast.  She took figure skating lessons at the Skating Club at Dartmouth along with her school-age children.  She started roller skating when she was 60, took freestyle lessons.  Patrons of Al’s Casino will remember her as the lithe white-haired woman in a bright skating dress.  Mrs.  Clark also liked to hike, walk, and go cross-country skiing.  She loved nature and being outdoors.

Mrs.  Clark’s broad reading ranged from a wide variety of magazines, classics, best sellers, to how-to books, and Stephen Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time.”

Mrs.  Clark was an avid student of Russian history, literature, and language.  Mrs.  Clark traveled to Russia twice.

All kinds of weather delighted her.  She would note and point out to her children such things as the different cloud patterns, how the rain sometimes fell from clouds in sheets, and if it was raining on one of the car and not the other.  She would join her children in collecting hail stones, never scolded them for running around in the rain, and even put a big 40-quart milk can under a downspout from the eves so they could take turns standing in it.  Sometimes in the winter she flooded the back yard or the field to make skating rinks.  She loved to breathe the air before a storm.  When there was a thunderstorm she would throw aside the curtains and stand ecstatically at the window watching the storm and inviting her family to join her.

She is survived by Arthur, her husband of 53 years; six children:  Judi Chatman of Dover, NH; Jean Clark Townsend of Canaan, NH; Richard A.  Clark of Lebanon, NH; Philip G.  Clark of Lebanon, NH; Sidney C.  Clark of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and Suzanne V.  Clark of Hanover, NH; by two brothers:  Ira Townsend of Meriden, NH; and A.  Storrs Townsend of Lebanon, NH;  by an aunt:  Irene Robinson of Cape Cod, MA; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a niece; a nephew; cousins; and other relatives, including the Townsends of Storrs Hill in Lebanon, NH.

A memorial service was held in Lebanon, NH.

Margaret A. Whittier

Lebanon, NH–Margaret A.  Whittier, 77, died Saturday September 30,1995 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a long illness.  She was born in Lebanon, NH  May 21, 1918, the daughter of Felix and Florence (Painchaud) Gerin.  She attended Lebanon schools and had been an area resident all of her life.  She was a former resident of West Lebanon, Canaan, Enfield, and most recently McKerley Healthcare Center in Lebanon.  She had been employed by the Enfield Police Dept., Split Ballbearing, and the Dewey Mills.  She was a member of the Mt. Calm Grange for iver 61 years.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield on Tuesday evening from7-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christain Burial was celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in St.  Helena’s Church in Enfield.  Burial followed in the Mt. Calm Cemetery in Enfield Center, NH.

Survivors include:  a half-sister, Mary Cook of Claremont; a half-sister, Hazel Montano of Ascutney, VT; nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick H.  Whittier on August 27, 1979 and a brother, Stanton Doiron.

Ethel May Tibbets

Lebanon, NH–Ethel May Tibbets “Tootie” Tibbits, 75, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 1994 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Ctr. in Lebanon, NH.  She was born in Jamaica, VT July 7,1919, the daughter of the late Delmar & Phoebe (Lackey) Stone.  She was married to the late Forrest Tibbits July4, 1939 and had been a resident of this area since 1946.  She had worked for many years as a Nurse’s Aide at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, and was a member of the Lebanon Eagles.

There were no calling hours.  Graveside services were conducted Thursday afternoon, Dec. 29th at 1 p.m. in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon.  The Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include: a son, Delmar Tibbits of Spartansburg, SC; a son James Tibbits of Enfield Ctr.; a son, Richard Tibbits of Canaan; a son, William Tibbits of Canaan; a son, Harry Tibbits of Enfield Ctr.; a daughter, Carol Moodie of East Plainfield; a son, Paul Tibbits of Canaan; a daughter, Marie Wolfson of Enfield; a son, Thomas Tibbits of Lebanon; a sister, Freda Day of Fairlee, VT; a brother, Albert Stone of Lebanon; a brother, William Stone of Wilder, VT; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Forrest Tibbits; and four brothers, Delmar Stone, Lyman Stone, Clifton Stone and Harry Stone.

Carolyn Jean Downes

Lebanon, NH –Carolyn Jean Downes, 21, formerly of Lebanon, and most recently of Malden Mass. died Monday, October 31, 1994 at the Malden Hospital. She was born in Lebanon, NH March 21, 1973, the daughter of Daniel A. & Elizabeth (Garde) Downes.  She attended New Hampton School and was a graduate of Lebanon High School Class of 1991.  She later attended and was on the Dean’s List at New England College in Henniker.  She participated in soccer & skiing and had won awards for her skiing.  She was also a ski instructor at Whaleback and Ascutney.  She was also active in 4-H, horseback riding, and the Lebanon High School Band.  She was a member of the Community Lutheran Church of Enfield.

She had been a resident of Malden, Mass. for the last year where she was employed as a leasing agent for the Charles River Park in Boston.  Carolyn was very creative and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Friends called the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Wednesday evening.  A memorial service was held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Community Lutheran Church in Enfield with burial following in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by her parents, Daniel A. & Elizabeth (Garde) Downes of Lebanon; a sister Susan E. Downes-Williams of Lebanon; a companion Brian H. Jerry of Malden, Mass.; a paternal grandfather, Lloyd B. Downes of Lebanon; a maternal grandmother Ruth P. Garde of Middletown, CT plus many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Bertha Almira Pellerin

Lebanon, NH–Bertha Almira Pellerin, 89, died Friday, May 26, 1995 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH where she had been a resident for the last five years.

She was born in Franklin, NH May 29, 1905, the daughter of Lewis & Ethel A. (Clark) Pellerin.  She graduated from Enfield High School in 1925 and from Keene Normal School in 1929 with a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics.  She taught in Chester, VT and Newmarket, NH, and spent 40 years teaching in Franklin, NH retiring in 1970.  She moved to Lebanon in 1979 and had resided at the home of Elsie Smith in Canaan, NH from 1983-1990.

She was a member of the NH Retired Teacher’s Association, AARP, a former member of the Franklin Baptist Church and the Polly Annas, and she was also Superintendent of Sunday Schools.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday morning, May 30 at 10 a.m. in the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon with the Rev. Dale Edwards officiating.  Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. in the Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, NH.  Memorial contributions in memory of Bertha may be made to the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility, 125 Mascoma St., Lebanon, NH  03766.

Survivors include:  a niece, Mary Ann Pellerin of Mitcheville, MD;  a nephew, John Pellerin of Claremont;  a longtime companion, Elsie Smith of Canaan;  grand-nieces and nephews and great-grand-nieces and nephews and cousins.
