James A. Jordan

James A. Jordan, 79, of 51 Tucker Drive, Contoocook and Barefoot Bay, Fla., died on July 11 at his residence.  He was born in Stratford, N.H., the son of Harry B. and Mae McFadden Jordan and lived for many years with Mrs. Lena Rich Stinson in Stratford Hollow.  He graduated from North Stratford High School, received his Bachelor of Education Degree from Keene State College and his Master of Education degree from the University of New Hampshire.  He commenced his teaching career in Enfield, N.H. where he set up the first woodworking shop using his own power tools until the school district could afford to outfit the shop.  He also taught math and science and coached sports.  He set up the first wood-working shop at Conant High School in East Jaffrey where he taught.  He also taught in Sunapee, N.H.  He became Principal of Pittsburg, N.H. High School.  Later he returned to Enfield as Principal.  He served ten years as Headmaster of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy.  He retired from the Hudson School District where he had served as Business Administrator for the district.  He has been a Boy Scout leader and worked at the Boy Scout Camp Manning in Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.  For ten years, he and his wife were Business Managers for the Bear Hill Pond and Spruce Pone 4-H camos.

He was inducted into the Keene State College Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sport of baseball.  He was a member of the National and local AARP, the N.H> Retired teachers Association, the Enfield-Mascoma Lions, the United Methodist Church of Roseland, Fla., and the Barefoot Bay Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julia Floyd Jordan of Contoocook. A son, Retired Lt. Commander James A. Jordan, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, June A. Wood of Concord, N.H.; three children, Mrs. Jill Jordan Davenport of Charlotte, N.C., Jennifer A. Jordan of Virginia Beach, Va., and James A. Wood of Concord, N.H.; a sister, Katherine J. Harriman of Ashland, N.H.; a brother, Clarence C. Jordan of Ashland, N.H.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, at the Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord, N.H. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Enfield, N.H. at 4 p.m. on Thursday.  Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
