Enfield, NH–Mrs. Barbara Jean Beede, 77, of Stevens St. in Enfield, died on June 14, 2000 at the Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon. Mrs. Beede was born in Barre, VT the daughter of Benjamin Joseph and Eunice (Clapp) Kendrigan. Barbara Jean grew up in Newmarket, NH. Her summers were spent in North Situate, MA with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. William Otis Clapp. Barbara Jean graduated from Keene Teachers College in 1945. For 36 years she taught school in Enfield, Durham and Lebanon, NH, 27 of those years were in the Lebanon School system. She was fond of saying: “I made my living teaching; but the children made my living worthwhile.” Ar any given recess on the school playground she always had a flock of students following her or holding her hands. She retired in June of 1984. She was a member of the Enfield Chapter of the Rebekah’s, the Eastern Star, the Mont Calm Grange, Lebanon Teacher’s Association, Lebanon Parent Teacher Organization, and was very active in the Enfield Community Lutheran Church.
Members of her family include a son, Lt. Col. Benjamin Chester Beede of Guam and a daughter, Jeanne Marie Smith of Enfield. Three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 19th at 11 am at the Community Lutheran Church in Enfield with Pastor John Crilley officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Enfield. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Community Lutheran [article ended}
