Lee H. Moses Sr.

Canaan, NH–Lee Herbert Moses Sr., 85, died Monday morning May 19, 2003 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Woodstock, VT March 9, 1918, a son of the late Charles W. & Lillie (Tucker) Moses. He grew up in Bath and Woodsville, NH and Topsom, Newbury and Groton, VT and attended local schools. He worked in the logging business for years before coming an auto mechanic. He was employed by Webster Motors of Canaan, NH for over 20 years. He later worked for Ed’s Equipment of Claremont; Cross Bakery of Claremont; Chase and Avery of Newport; and as a night watchman at Durkins & Crowley, retiring in 1980. He was a resident of Canaan, NH in the early ’50’s, then lived in Cornish, and later in Newport before returning to Canaan in 1980. In his retirement he operated a small engine and motor repair business from his home and also sold and cut Christmas trees. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing and playing his harmonica.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter Yvonne Benoit; 3 sisters: Lillian Hart, Jennie Smith and Madeline Darling; and a brother Charlie W. Moses Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years Merle L. (Downs) Moses of Canaan, NH whom he married Sept. 13, 1958; 3 sons: Albert L. Moses of CA, Benjamin L. Moses of Barre, VT and Lee H. Moses Jr.of Canaan, NH; 2 sisters: Dorothy Chase of Canaan, NH and Dolly Shepard of Sandy Creek, NY; 2 half-sisters: Esther of ME and Rosie of Dover, NH; 3 half-brothers: Henry Moses of Lyndonville, VT, Harvey Moses of Bradford, VT and “Vinnie” Moses of MA; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours, funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm in the Canaan United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Canaan Street Cemetery. Rev. Patricia Williams will officiate.
