Enfield, NH–Ernest A. Popple, 96, of Enfield, a garage owner and automobile repairman for over 50 years, died on October 13, 1999. The past four years he resided at the Grafton County Nursing home in North Haverhill, New Hampshire. He was born in Rindge, New Hampshire on January 6, 1903 and owned and operated Enfield Garage in Enfield for 29 years and then Popple’s Garage, also in Enfield, another 10 years. He drove a school bus for about two decades, as well as owning two of the three Enfield school buses during that time. In February of this year, Ernest was honored as the oldest resident of Enfield when he was presented with a plaque representing his being the recipient of Enfield’s Boston Post Cane. His son, Ernest F. Popple of Tempe, Arizona and his two granddaughters, Kimberly and Kristen Popple survive him. His wife, Marion, and his four sisters and seven brothers preceded him in death. There will be no visitation hours. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 19th at 2 pm in the Mountain View Cemetery in Swanzey Center, NH.
