Harriet F. Welch

Canaan, NH–Harriet Foster Welch, 84, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1997 at the Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH. She was born in Newport, VT June 29, 1912 the daughter of the late Walter A. and Bertha (Aldrich) Dane. She attended schools in Newton Center, MA and was a graduate of Smith College with a degree in French literature. An accomplished musician and dancer, she taught ballet and tap dance in the Boston area. During WWII she served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China/Burma Theatre as a Staff Asst. for the American Red Cross in India. Her home on Canaan Street was the setting for annual summer shows featuring her family as instructors and musicians and including a wealth of locally recruited talent. Harriet was married to Austin H. Welch, a former Professor at Dartmouth Hitchcock College, The University of New Hampshire, and the First President of the former Canaan College. Mr. Welch died in 1983.

She is survived locally by her dear friend and caretaker Velma Adams of Canaan, NH.

Harriet was preceded by her parents; and 2 sisters: Barbara and Helen Dane. There are no known surviving family members.

Rose B. Welch

Enfield, N.H.  – Rose B. Welch, 75 of Enfield, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 1994 at the Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H.  The daughter of Peter Beaupre and Hermeline (Crate) Beaupre, she was born on May 2, 1919 in Lebanon, N.H.  She attended Lebanon schools, graduating from Lebanon High School in1936.  She was married to John Welch in Lebanon, November 9, 1940.  Mr. Welch died in 1979.  She had been employed for 20 years at A.G. Dewey Woolen Mills, and for 22 years at Mascoma Valley Regional High School as a secretary.  Mrs. Welch served as the Tax Collector for the Town of Enfield from 1963 until retiring from that position several years ago.  She was a member of St. Helena’s Church in Enfield.

Survivors include: a son, Jack Welch of Orford, N.H.; a brother, Charles Beaupre of Lebanon; a brother, Eugene Beaupre of Lebanon, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Welch in 1979 and her daughter, Michelle (Welch) Gourley in 1986.

There were no calling hours.  A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, July 6, 1994 at 10 a.m. at the St. Helena Church in Enfield.  The family asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Enfield Fast Squad, Enfield, N.H. 03748.  Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon was in charge of arrangements.
