Agnes Emma Smith

Canaan, NH–Agnes Emma Smith, 90, died Thursday, August 3, 1995 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.  She was born in Canaan, NH January 29, 1905, the daughter of the late Eugene & Sarah Pearl (Barney) Emerson.  She attended Canaan schools and had lived in the area for most of her life and had worked for many years in the Mica Shop in Canaan.  She not only raised her own children, but also raised a grandson-Joseph Chase and a niece-Brenda (Emerson) Davis.  Her greatest loves were her family, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. and funeral service were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Canaan United Methodist Church.  Burial followed in the Wells Cemetery in Canaan with the Rev.  Philip Anderson officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requested that contributions be made to the Canaan F.A.S.T. Squad.

Survivors include: a son, Earl “Bucky” Smith of Canaan; a son, George H.  Smith of Canaan; a daughter, Elsie Wilson of Canaan; 23 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Harry A.  Smith; a son, Ernest B.  Smith; a son, Eugene “Oscar” Smith; a daughter, Dorothy McLaughlin; a daughter, Fannie Hill; and a daughter, Emma Chase.
