Vera A. Olsen

Enfield, NH–Vera A. Olsen, 82, died Saturday Oct. 24, 1998 at the Lebanon Center of Genesis Elder Care in Lebanon, NH She was born in Canaan, NH Sept. 25, 1916, the daughter of Solon B. and Elize (Johnston) Hardy and was a lifelong area resident. She attended Enfield High School and later Lebanon College. She was a member of the Enfield United Methodist Church, and was a president of the United Methodist women for over 10 years. She had been employed by the Baltic Mills for 12 years. She had been a substitute teacher in the Enfield school system for over 20 years teaching kindergarten and grade levels 2, 3 & 4 prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Relham chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Enfield, and was past Noble Grand of the Mt. Lebanon Rebekah lodge. Vera was pre-deceased by her first husband Archie “Tom” Sawyer. She was married on December 20, 1963 to Sten O. Olson in Enfield, NH.

She was an accomplished artist of early-American style painting and stenciling. She also enjoyed making original decorations and dried or pressed flower arrangements and notepapers.

There were no calling hours. A memorial service was held Tuesday morning at 11 am in the Enfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Williams officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Enfield, NH.

The family includes her husband, Sten O. Olson of Enfield, two stepsons , Robert Olson of Leadville, CO and Bruce Olson of White River Jct., VT. A sister, Verna Shurtleff, of KS, two grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Olson was pre-deceased by a brother, Clyde Hardy and her first husband Archie “Tom” Sawyer.
