Chester W. Kane

Canaan, NH–Chester James Alfred Wellington Wright Kane, 83, formerly of Canaan, NH and Houston, TX, died December 18, 2002 at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport, NH following a long illness. He was born in Boston, MA November 26, 1920. The son of the late Anne (Wright) and Thomas Kane. During his acquaintance of John Kennedy. Chester was a veteran of WWII serving with the Third Armored Division as a Medic. Chet married his former wife Cozette (Davis) Kane in Oakridge, TN in 1946. After serving in the Army, Chet attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA and graduated with a degree in Political Science and always enjoyed having people of different nationalities in his home for dinner and discussion with him and his former wife Cozette.

Chester also enjoyed cooking and moved in the 1960’s to Houston, TX where he had an upscale restaurant and catering business called “Chester Kane’s” in which many of our astronauts and others in the space industry dined.

During his later years Chet moved back to Canaan, NH to help care for his mother until her death several years later. Chet remained at the homestead until his health required that he move to the convalescent facility where he resided until the time of his death.

Chester leaves a cousin: Phyllis (Schantz) Hansen of Edison, NJ; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends in Canaan, NH and Houston, TX; and to those who enjoyed his culinary skills in Houston, he will be missed.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canaan, NH. The Ricker Funeral Homes and Crematory of Lebanon, NH is in charge of arrangements.
