Perley B. Eastman

Canaan, NH – Perley B. Eastman, 82, died Thursday July 14, 1994 at the Alice Peck Day Extended Care Facility in Lebanon, NH.  He was born in Orange, NH March 22, 1912, the son of the late Melvin & Daisy (Cate) Eastman.  He attended Orange schools and had been a resident of the Orange/Canaan area all of his life.  He was married to Viola R. (Brown) in 1943.

Mrs. Eastman died in 1990.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Eastman has been employed as a Truck Driver for Roberts Lumber of Canaan, and by Morris Lumber of Canaan.

There will be no calling hours.  Funeral Services will be conducted Monday afternoon July 18 at 2 PM in the Ricker Funeral Home, Route 4 in Enfield.  Burial will be in the Orange Cemetery.

Anne F. Jamison

Canaan, NH – Anne F. Jamison, 73, died in her sleep Tuesday, May 31st, 1994, at the Olympic Fields Home in Illinois, the home of their daughter, Keith Roy.

Mrs. Jamison was the daughter of the Rev. Dascomb E. and Anne (Ramsey) Forbush.  Mr. and Mrs. Forbush retired to Canaan in 1945 after being summer residents since 1923.

After her graduation from Keuka College in New York in 1942, she married Russell Barnet Jamison, a U.S. Army Air Force pilot.

The family resided in Appleton, Wis. Cincinnati, Ohio, New Canaan, Ct. and Short Hills, N.J. visiting Canaan in the summers.  In 1986, Mr. and Mrs. Jamison made their permanent home in Canaan.

Her husband, ”Barn” Jamison, was a selectman of Canaan from 1989 until his death in 1992.

Mrs. Jamison was a member if the Canaan Lioness Club, the Canaan Bird and Garden Club, the Canaan Lake Association and the United Methodist Women in Canaan.  She volunteered in the coffee shop at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital for the Auxiliary for seven years.

Survivors include two daughters, Keith Roy and Beth Cifrodelli; three sons, Russell B. Jamison, Dascomb D. Jamison and Major James F. Jamison; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, three brothers, Dascomb, Ramsey and Reed Forbush.

There will be no funeral.  A memorial service will be held at Old North Church in Canaan on July 27 at 5 p.m.

Joseph Odlin Theriault

Canaan – Joseph Odlin Theriault, 82, died Thursday evening at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverill.

He was born in Packardsville, New Brunswick, Canada, Sept. 25, 1911, the son of Alex and Alma (Albert) Theriault.  Mr. Theriault came to the United States in 1929.  He had been a longtime resident of Canaan and lived at the Rogers Home in Lebanon before moving to North Haverhill two years ago.

For many years, Mr. Theriault worked as a self-employed lumberman and was employed by the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation for five years prior to his retirement.

Mr. Theriault loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his son, Guy C. Plume of Lebanon; two grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by 16 brothers and sisters.

Family and friends may gather at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St. in Lebanon, Monday at 7 p.m.  A memorial service will be conducted at 8 p. m.  Burial will be at a later date in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon.

Joan Easton Dunleavy

Joan Easton Dunleavy, 40, died July 16 in Baltimore, Maryland of leukemia.  Mrs. Dunleavy, the daughter of Canaan residents Roger and Barbara Easton, devoted much of her short life to helping the less fortunate, particularly children.

She adopted Caroline, now 2, a Romanian child, and became active in efforts to have other neglected and orphaned Romanian children adopted by American parents.

Even though stricken with leukemia, she continued to organize successful social gatherings for other adoptive American parents and their Romanian children.

Mrs. Dunleavy also sponsored an umproverished girl in Ecuador.  She enjoyed making crafts such as baby quilts and giving these expressions of her love to friends and family.

Mrs. Dunleavy has worked for the Library of Congress for 18 years, most recently in the Performing Arts Division of the Library’s copyright office.

She was born on March 28. 1953, in Washington, D.C. and resided in Springfield, Virginia with John, her husband of five years.

She was a music graduate of Chatham College in Pittsburgh and earned her master’s degree in library science from Catholic University.  She played the piano and harp and was actively involved in her church.

Almost eleven years earlier, Mrs. Dunleavy had fought and survived Hodgkin’s disease.

She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Ann of Toms river, NJ; Ruth of Strasburg, VA; Richard of Chicago, Ill; and Roger Easton of Rochester, NY.

Dorothy Edna Estes

Dorothy Edna Estes, 59, died at her home Wednesday morning July 14, 1993.  She was born in West Lebanon, NH Feb. 10, 1923, the daughter of the late William G. & Leola G. (Brown) Carter.  She has been a lifelong resident of the Upper valley having lived in Hartland, Mascoma, and most recently in Canaan.  Her favorite hobby was needlework.  She was married to Raymond Everett Estes Sr. in Sept. 1, 1948 in White River Jct., VT.

Graveside Committal Services were conducted Monday morning July 19, at 10 AM in the Valley Cemetery in Lebanon, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Survivors include: Husband, Raymond E. Estes Sr., Canaan, NH 03741; Son, Raymond E. Estes, Jr., Enfield, NH; Sister, Gladys Rivers, Brandon, VT; Sister, Ruth Chaffee, Windsor, VT; Sister, Elsie Cooley, Middlebury, VT; Sister, Lillian Ekroo, Bristol, VT; 1 Grandson: Raymond E. estes III; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Preceded in death by: Father, William George Carter, Mother, Leola Gladys (Brown) Carter.

Walter Cyrus Roberts

Canaan, NH  — Walter Cyrus Roberts, 71, died Sunday May 2, 1993 of natural causes while visiting relatives in Vicksburg, Mississippi.  He was born in Canaan, NH Dec 11, 1921 the son of the late Cyrus L. & Annie Belle (Beaton) Roberts.  He was a resident of Canaan all of his life.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks.  He worked as a board sawyer in many lumber mills in the area.  He worked as a maintenance person at Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan for 14 years and later as a custodian for 10 years at Dartmouth College until his retirement 8 years ago.

Survivors include: a wife, Floria L. Machon of Canaan, a daughter, Annie Roberts of Memphis, TN, a daughter, Marie Roberts of Lebanon, a step-daughter, Patricia Phillips of Sevierville, TN, a step-daughter, Cheryl Green, of Memphis, TN, a step-daughter, Karen Carroll of Vicksburg, MS, a step-son, Dennis Tarr of Bartlett, TN, a step-son, Kevin Machon of Nashville, TN, a brother, Jesse “BING” Roberts of Lebanon, a grandson, 11 step-children, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.  He was preceeded in death by his father, Cyrus Roberts, a brother, Leonard Roberts (died April 20, 1993), and a brother, John Roberts.

Burial was in the Canaan Street Cemetery on May 6, 1993.  Ricker Funeral Home of Lebanon was in charge of arrangements.
