Linda “Lyn” Strobel

St. Cloud, MN–Linda “Lyn” Strobel, 50, a resident of St. Cloud since July, died at St. Cloud Hospital.

She was born Nov. 17, 1948 in Greenfield, MA, a daughter of Edward and Estelle (Vysocky) Marine and grew up in Canaan.

In 1968, she moved to Tulsa, OK, and in 1988 to Fredericksburg, VA. Where she lived for 10 years and was campus coordinator at Strayer University for five years. She also received her degree in business at Strayer.

Survivors include two sons Tony Makres and Kevin Makres of Tulsa. Her mother and stepfather Robert Monroe of Canaan, 2 brothers Robert Marini of Franklin and Ronald Monroe of Boston, 2 sisters, Angela Rakotz of St. Cloud and Teresa Bolduc of King Goerge, VA and 3 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lyn Strobel Scholarship Fund, Strayer University, Fredericksburg, VA.

Donald E. Davis

Enfield, NH–Donald E. Davis, 64, died Thursday, February 11th, at his home in Enfield.

He was born November 28, 1934, in Alexandria, NH son of Richard G. Davis and Ida M. Baxter, attended Upper Valley schools , and was employed at James C. Campion & Sons in Hanover for 20 years.

On October 24, 1970, he was married to Catherine Hibbard. In 1980, they opened Cathi & Don’s Country Store in Enfield, which he was still operating at the time of his death.

Mr. Davis loved dogs, feeding birds and deer, collecting coins and classic cars, and most of all, spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of Enfield; four sons, Keven M. and Donald E. Jr., both of Enfield, Michael K. and Anthony C. both of Canaan, a daughter, Pamela L. Nadeau of Canaan; a brother, Richard Davis of Lebanon; three sisters, Dorothy D. Harten of Springfield, VT, Maryann Stone of Shamokin, PA, and Cindy E. Eames of Wilder; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Monday from 7-9 pm at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 am at La Salette Shrine Chapel in Enfield. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Enfield in the spring.

James A. Fredrickson

Canaan, NH– James A. Fredrickson, 70, died Sunday morning Feb. 28, 1999 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NH August 27, 1928, the son of the late James A. & Louise (Magna) Fredrickson Sr. Mr. Fredrickson was a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. For many years he was employed as Merchandise Manager for S & H Greenstamps (The Sperry & Hutchinson Co.). He was a member of The Community Lutheran Church in Enfield and enjoyed sports and nature. He had a great interest in geography, history and politics. He was married to Lois (Fisher) on May 11, 1957.

There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to visit the family at their home in Canaan. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1 pm in the Community Lutheran Church in Enfield, NH The Rev. John Crilley will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the NH Veterans Cemetery.

David Winston Walker

Enfield, NH–David WinstonWalker, 88, died Saturday evening at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport, NH. He was born in Worcester, MA Jan. 21, 1909 the son of David K. and Minnie (Fletcher) Walker.

Survivors include: wife, Eunice Walker of Enfield; son, William Walker of Claremont; and two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He spent most of his life in the Mascoma-Enfield area. He attended schools in Mascoma and Lebanon. He was a peace time veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Walker was employed by the Baltic Woolen Mill in Enfield as an engineer and fireman and had worked in the Lebanon Woolen Mill. He was married for 52 years to Eunice Sargent and they made their home in Enfield center. He had also farmed in this area for many years and had been a cattle dealer. He was a past member of the Enfield Budget Committee and the Odd Fellows. He was a member of Mont Calm grange #70 and served as gate keeper for several years.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Union Church in Enfield center with the Rev. Stephen Prickett officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Mascoma Cemetery. Romeo Denis

Enfield, NH–Romeo Denis, 92, died Thursday evening February 4, 1999 at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, NH. He was born in Canada July 8, 1906, the son of the late Philippe & Mary Louise Denis. He was a lifelong resident of the Upper Valley and along with his wife Rose had been the owner/operators of the Mt. Calm Inn of Enfield for many years.

At his own request there will be no services. Private burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lebanon, NH.

Jean C. LaPlante

Enfield, NH–Jean C. LaPlante, 73, died Sunday at her daughter’s home, where she had lived for the past 12 years, following a long illness.

She was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Claremont, a daughter of Alexander and Rosanna (Dansereau) LeClair. Mrs. LaPlante lived most of her life in Claremont, where she graduated from Stevens High School in 1942.

She was employed by Paine Webber, in Boston, before her marriage on June 19, 1948, to Leo R. LaPlante. Mr. LaPlante died Aug. 20, 1975.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Croteau of Enfield; two sons, Donald LaPlante of Lancaster, NH and Dennis LaPlante of Claremont; two brothers, Alexander LaClair of Newbury, NH, and Richard LaClair of North Hampton, NH; two sisters, Carolyn Sheehan of Sun City, FL, and Eleanor Jone of Claremont; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church in Claremont, with the Rev. Maurice LaRochelle, a family friend and pastor of All Saints Parish in Lancaster, NH, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Robert William Prosser

Grafton, NH–Robert William Prosser, 49, died on January 15, 1997 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. He attended North Providence, RI high school and lived in North Providence until moving to NH in 1976. While in RI he was self-employed as a commercial fisherman in Warwick. He was married on June 5, 1965 to Rachel Vaillant. They made their home in Canaan and Grafton, NH since their marriage. He owned and operated Bob’s Classic Auto Body in Grafton for many years, restoring classic street rods. He enjoyed prospecting for gold and was in the process of forming a business “Week-Enders Gold” prospecting equipment in Grafton.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home in Enfield on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grafton Police Department, c/o Merle Kenyon, Grafton, NH 03240.

Robert Larimore Clausen

Enfield, NH–Robert Larimore “Gramps” Clausen, 69, died Monday Jan. 20, 1997 at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare Center in Hanover, NH following a long illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY May 21, 1927 the son of Olga & Henry Clausen. He served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1953. After serving his country he came back home where he became an avid member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Brooklyn, NY. He was employed by Holmes Protective Inc. in New York City, where he retired after 27 years. Upon retiring from Holmes in 1982, he moved to his Enfield summer home which he loved so much. He frequently referred to his home in Enfield as “God’s Country.” He was employed by the Grand Union Supermarket in Hanover for 10 years and was a school custodian at the Indian River School for five years.

Private services will be held at he convenience of the family.

Survivors include: his wife, Joan E. (Johnson) Clausen of Enfield; a daughter, Karen Sanborn of Enfield; a son, Clifford Clausen of New York; four grandchildren-Keith & Jodi Sanborn, Nancy & Christopher Teehan.

George Herbert Carr Sr.

Canaan, NH–George Herbert Carr Sr., 69, died at his home in Canaan on Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, 1997 following a long illness. He was born in Hanover, NH May 30, 1933 the son of the late Harry D. and Alice I. (Marshall) Carr. A life-long resident of the Hanover/Canaan area, he had worked in construction for various area contractors for many years. He was married to Joyce (Dolloph) on June 14, 1952. He enjoyed animals, gardening, and especially his grandchildren.

Friends called at the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St. in Lebanon Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Cecilia Engelhardt officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton, NH. The family requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to: The Canaan F.A.S.T.
